I visited the Museum Land van Valkenburg whilst I was in Valkenburg as part of a Christmas Market weekend in 2012. It's not particularly well signed and you could easily miss it even though it is in the centre of Valkenburgh and on the main street up to the Roman caves. It cost 4 euros to go in and the two ladies in the reception area were charming and helpful although not fluent in English,,well why should they be ! On when I went was an exhibition of Pieke Dassen, who I had never heard of . He was a skilled puppeteer and famous in the Low Countries in the 60's and 70's for his TV shows ,I think kids would love this exhibition, all sorts of puppets from kings and queens and princesses to animals and fantasy figures. There is a permanent exhibition upstairs (there is a lift) but I didn't get a chance to see this.
I would definitely go back and check out the permanent ex , the Pieke Dassen finished in Feb this year so there will be a different travelling ex, there is a website to check this out . The museum is in an old Valkenburg House so there are stairs, There is no coffee shop but there are plenty on the street . Getting there - we went as part of a coach trip and I have no idea how you would get there by public transport apologies. Valkenburg is often included as part of Christmas Market packages and although it's easy to get caught up in the Cave Market and Christmas shopping try and put the Museums on your itinerary , it's a reminder that Valkenburg has it's own heritage, very enjoyable
