“Good place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

The I Am Hotel Amsterdam Airport is part of, and attached to the back of Hotel Schiphol A4.
In fact it shares with Hotel Schiphol A4 all the common amenities: reception desk, restaurant, business centre, wellness centre, swimming pool, sauna, gym, etc. They are both very large hotels, located in the middle of agricultural and farm land, about 5 km south of Schiphol airport.
The hotel has a large car park so is very handy for those travelling by cars. Travellers with no car can take the hotel shuttle bus to and from Schiphol airport. The shuttle bus serves both hotels and runs according to a fixed timetable from 6.00am to 23.40pm.
Each run to and from the airport takes about 15-20 min so the bus runs every 40 min between consecutive runs in the same direction. To take the shuttle from Schiphol airport, wait at the bus waiting bay A9-A13, just outside the airport terminal. The shuttle bus has the signage 'Van der Valk Shiphol A4'. A copy of the shuttle timetable is posted at the bus waiting bay.

As the hotel is very new and of modern design, decors, furniture and fittings are very new and sleek. Rooms are very spacious and open to large full-width balconies, overlooking landscaped garden and distant farm land. Bedding is very comfortable. However the facilities provided in the room are minimal and far fewer than what were offered by other 4-star hotels that I had stayed in elsewhere. For toiletries, only shampoo and bath gel are supplied. There are no tooth brushes, tooth paste, shaving cream, no slippers, let alone bath robes, and not even tissues. There is no fridge, no tea and coffee making facility, no clock.
Flat screen TV with many international channels is provided. Free wifi is available throughout the hotel.
There are no shops around the hotel. However there are a few food outlets in a food court complex that is next to the car park in front of the hotel. You can find there Burger King, KFC, Delifrance, La Place, Rancho Bar & Grill. Most are open till about 11 pm. Check them out for the exact opening hours if you intend to use them.
We did not use the hotel restaurant so cannot comment. Due to the large number of guests from both hotels, the restaurant is very busy and you need to book your table beforehand.
There are many trains running between Schiphol airport and Amsterdam Central station. Depending on the type of train, each run can take up to 15 min, without counting the waiting time. So it takes at least 40-45 min to go from the hotel to Amsterdam Central station by shuttle bus and then train. Cost of Schiphol-Amsterdam Central return train fare for each person is about 8 Euros.
If you are travelling by car and/or looking for some clean, modern comfortable hotel away from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam to unwind, relax, and to swim or have some physical workout then this hotel is a good choice. However if you intend to spend most of your time in Amsterdam for sightseeing, shopping, and late-night entertainment, then you have to take into account the time constraints and costs of travelling between the hotel and Amsterdam.

Room Tip: All rooms in the I Am Hotel Amsterdam are at the back of the Hotel Schiphol A4 so are away from rece...

Stayed here recently for 1 night. Overall, I am satisfied with the service and cleanliness. The room is spacious, fresh and modern. The breakfast buffet was superb. The food options are abundant and of good quality. Free shuttle bus regularly to and fro the airport. I would definitely stay here again!

This new hotel with modern looking rooms is attached to Van der Valk Hotel 'Schiphol' (a better hotel for the same price range) and it acts more as an over flow for the Valk than a stand alone hotel. It has no reception and all its service (pool, restaurant etc) are in the Valk hotel building. The rooms are average and somewhat spacious and the beds comfortable but basic. Important note: our time here was during the beginning of winter weather (which is from Oct-April) and our room was cold. I called three times to get someone to check the heating. Each time I was connected to the Valk front desk but no one ever came. Its NOT good to have to wear a sweater to bed. Also, breakfast not included in basic price and cost 15 Euros per person at the Valk. It was an average hotel buffet.

Stayed here as the tour leader of a group. Everyone loved the hotel. Spacious rooms, ultra modern styling and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast at the Van Der Valk hotel just across a hall. Indoor swimming pool. Reception very friendly and helpful.

Pleasantly surprised to find large rooms here. Very unlike other parts of Europe. They have regular shuttle service to Schipol airport, so that is very convenient. From the airport you can get train to the centre of the city. Staff is very helpful and efficient too. The breakfast spread is large and varied.

Close enough to the aiport and there is a shuttle every 40 min's each way.
The hotel is beautiful inside. You check in in the VanderValk Hotel, en then walk through the hotel to the I Am part.

What a cool hotel! Love the look of it.

Breakfast is good value for money with a wide variety. The restaurant is GREAT, a nice improvement would be service in the outside area in summer, as I had to eat at the bar to be able to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather.

There's a Burger King, KFc and other restaurants 50m from the hotel which is convenient.

The reception staff is also very capable and very friendly.

I AM rooms are great, love the minimalist look. Well designed and the balcony is a nice bonus.

Room Tip: I would go for a room that has a view over the gardens at the back.

I recently stayed at the I Am Hotel and overall was not terribly impressed. Although the hotel decor is sleek and modern, the actual check-in and reception was located in a different hotel and what seemed like a different building. The staff were moderately friendly. I was shocked that there was only one ironing board available in the whole hotel and had to wait an hour before one could be sent to my room. Given that I was only in Amsterdam for one night and had a taxi waiting downstairs this was an unecessary hindrance. I then had to take my clothes to reception, obtain the keys to a generic laundry room and iron my clothes there before returning to my room. I travel for business and stay in good quality hotels all over Europe and the US so this was an annoying experience. The staff could have been more approachable and friendly. However, on the upside the rooms were excellent and very modern and welcoming. The hotel is far from the town centre and the cost of the taxi to and from central Amsterdam was another negative factor.
