“Nice Big Hotel - Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for a 3 day stopover in Amsterdam on an international trip that connected through Schipol. We made reservations on line and reconfirmed in advance by phone since we wanted to request early check in. The conversation started in Dutch but quickly switched to English was very friendly and our request was confirmed by informing us of a 20 Euro one time charge. Since our plane arrived at 7:30 am, the convenience of early check in for 20 Euro was great value. The free hotel shuttle bus service operates at fixed times, and runs like clockwork. The shuttle from airport to hotel takes longer (30 Minutes) than the shuttle from hotel to airport (10 Minutes) because the bus has to drive past the hotel on the highway to the next exit and back track. The shuttle bus is huge and accommodated all passengers and luggage comfortably. We found the shuttle bus very convenient and easy to plan around, making the hotel a great base to get to the Airport and a quick hop to Amsterdam by train / bus. The hotel is one of the largest we have seen and is well decorated. Hotel reception was friendly and efficient. We were offered a choice to pay by Credit Card at check in or approve an authorization for the estimated amount with the final bill being settled at check out tso as to place restaurant / other charges on the account. The Credit Card showed a charge pending right away but the Hotel processed charges as they has explained and there were no issues. The rooms are large and comfortable but might be a long walk from the lobby. Heat, A/C and Hot water were perfect.

The hotel gets a lot of stranded passengers who have missed flights and we saw the staff work hard to ensure that the restaurant was kept open past closing time to serve them. We decided to get desert late on Mothers Day and despite the frenzy of stranded passengers and almost closing time, the friendly staff got us seated and served, taking the time to give my wife a Mothers Day gift from the Hotel.

Overall this hotel has great staff and is a great value if you do not mind staying away from the airport and city and having to rely on the shuttle bus if you do not have your own car.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are very nice.

This is essentially an Airport Hotel (owned by the Van Der Valk group) situated on a motorway service station. However, when you arrive at the Hotel (by free shuttle bus or car) you will be amazed at the size of the place which is by far the biggest hotel we have ever stayed in and sometimes your room could be at least 10 minutes away (travelling up and down Elevators and along endless corridors). This is our second time at the Hotel so take our advice and don’t bother with the mystery suites option, because the standard luxury rooms are superb with King size beds, plasma TV’s and lovely bathrooms. The Hotel also features a large leisure facility with Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, and a brilliantly clean area below the pool that features a Steam room, Sauna and Solarium along with a relaxing area and showers.

Without a car, you are reliant on the shuttle bus to get you away from the Hotel, but from the Airport, it is a short hop on a bus to the nearest market town or a short train journey to take you into the centre of Amsterdam.

The Restaurant is very good and reasonably priced, but the first time we stayed at the Hotel, they did a superb Hot Buffet in the evening with the biggest selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes we have ever seen. Unfortunately, they only do the Hot Buffet when they are full up with stranded passengers and it’s a shame this is not a regular feature. Breakfast again is very good, but if you do not want to pay for a full breakfast (or dinner in the evening), a short walk to the Service Station will provide you with lots of alternative food venues, some of which look great.

The staff on reception were always very helpful but sometimes the reception area can be overrun with guests checking in or out, so queuing is normal (especially when they are trying to accommodate a plane full of stranded passengers which we understand is very often).

Location:

The hotel is around 10 min far from Schiphol airport. But it offers a free shuttle bus.

Room:

Room is big enough, spacious and with a good terrace. But no refrigerator and no slippers.
The furniture and overall the hotel is not modern but I like it as a 2 night stay.
The bathroom was big enough but the shower booth was small with problem on tap so I didn't enjoy showering at all.

Pool:

I saw no staff on the pool area. The pool is not big but it is good enough for relaxing. The sauna area is the modernest place in the hotel it was good.
When I was going to use the pool I had problem where I can place my stuff and the other problem was a group of energetic and loud teenage occupy the pool and there was no place for relaxing at all.

Eating:

My booking did not include breakfast but there is a highway complex with many options KFC, a la catre , self service and etc.

The Weird thing:

The architecture of the hotel is the weirdest I've ever seen. Getting your room from the lobby is a real journey; you have to use elevator , go up , find the first corridor open a big door with your card go up, go down, go right, go left, then
you are in the correct corridor. now you can search for your room number. If want to go to the pool area from your room you should prepare yourself for a longer path!

Smells in the hotel:

Honestly I am a bit sensitive to the smells. Maybe you smell of baked fish in the lobby area arising from the restaurant. In the corridor you will smell of a rich pine wood smell which I liked!

Cleanliness:

Overall, the room is clean and acceptable for a "not a new" hotel.

Room Tip: Beg the reception for a not far room from the lobby!!

This is a very nice hotel although it's a bit outdated.
The rooms weren't that clean and since it's big there's a long stretch to walk in the halls. The shower also didn't seem clean enough and the furniture seem quite old.
Breakfast is AMZING. The best one Ive had in years.
All in all it's a very nice and comfortable hotel.

Big busy hotel on the motorway with convenient shuttle bus connections to and from the airport. Professional, English speaking staff. Big rooms with balconies overlooking the adjacent fields or courtyard. We could see bunny rabbits hopping around the distant field. Very comfortable beds. Faded elegance of this hotel was charming. Bar was atmospheric. Rooms very clean although some public areas could've a little cleaner. KFC, Burger King, Deli France and restaurant just a short walk across the car park to the Truck Stop. The hotel also offers lockers at a good price for short or long term luggage storage as well as car parking. Recommended for those not needing to be in the hustle and bustle of the city.

I was in The Netherlands on business and stayed here on my way out of the country. The location was great, the shuttle - every 20 minutes - to Schipol allowed you to take the train wherever you wanted to go.The room was all that was needed, clean updated and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was well worth the 15 Euro. Will stay here every time I go back!!

Good size rooms, very comfortable. Location does not have much options as it is just on the highway and somewhat far from everything. Still overall an enjoyable stay
