“Competent and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is a property near Schiphol Airport connected by the hotel shuttle, note free only on airport to hotel sector, the return journey is payable 7.50 euro. The staff at the reception were very friendly and helpful with all enquiries re hotel and local environs. The rooms are standard H Express size and were very clean, with comfortable beds. The breakfast is acceptable with variety of cold meats and cheeses Dutch style. The bar area is very comfortable with cosy colours and cosy atmosphere. All in all a very acceptable night's rest can be had in this friendly and efficient establishment, good price on line. NOTE very eccentric luggage trolley with one wheel kaput!

HIX standard hotel and room format, feel and experience, no worse or better than most HIX's. Another airport 1night option for me, I wold consider again, but so much airport stat choice these days.

Only one room size/type, barring choice of Twin or queen bed, and as HIX brand, a continental breakfast is included in room rate. Guess for me ok for 1x single night stay arriving/departing airport, but not ok for a longer stays for me.

2euros + 10minutes by train Schiphol to Hoofddorp + 400m walk, or half hoursly shuttle to three Hoofddorp hotels within 400m of each other, HIX/CP/Hilton-Hampton. Free shuttle to hotel BUT very bad 7.50/euro hotel->airport fee, especially if like me one took + paid train to hotel, so did not benefit from return 2-way trip for 7.50euro
... note ...Half hourly train to Amsterdam Central Station costs 10euro rtn and takes 30minutes.

Rooms nice and clean, bathroom shower only, but immediate and plentiful hot water. Flatscreen TV, 100 channels free including 2movie channels, plus free internet.

Queen bed mattress too soft for me, plenty of lighting, aiircon worked aok, quiet enough to sleep well. Good work desk, usual kettle/tea facilities. No clothes storage space though, just small amount of shelves under work desk. Furniture and fittings a good standard, all in good order.

Reception area big open plan, staff quick, polite, helpful. Bar is extension of reception desk with draft beer, and nice seating area.
IHG Elites get no upgrade as rooms all the same, get drinks voucher, a small beer. No free water, which costs 2.75/bottle (same as coffee) ref inroom price menu.

Can order food in like pizza or walk to nearby restaurant, or Crowne Plaza just 50m away across main road and has a good restaurant.

we had a late arrival to Amsterdam, planed to stay the night and leave early morning after a good rest.
free shuttle from the terminal to the hotel (10-15min drive depends on how many hotels its stops on the way)
the room is nice and clean, the showers and big and clean,
had to book 2 rooms (with connecting door between them) because it is not allowed to have more then 2 persons in a room.
nice breakfast with good variety.
good free WIFI.
shuttle back to the terminal is 7.5EUR per person (every 30min)

Room Tip: don't think its matters, no view, windows so not open, very happy with the room i got

This was a nice hotel. Most Holiday Inn Express I have stayed at are a good value. Nice comfy bed and clean. It was the charge on the return shuttle that made me feel taken. It does state on the website "complimentary airport to hotel shuttle" . Maybe its just me but you decide when you read it. It does not imply its one way. Sometimes whether or not they have a free shuttle makes a difference in the decision you make between one hotel or another. We had gotten stuck in Amsterdam and had to stay an additional night. The hotel we had been staying did not have any more room so we looked for one near the airport and with a free shuttle. I called Holiday Inn Customer Relations who ever I spoke was nice and agreed it was misleading but they said I had to wait until they contacted the hotel to make things right. If the hotel didnt then they would. We will see. ..............In the meantime fellow travelers be aware.

Bed was uncomfortable and in poor shape. I saw down on lower end and it sagged to the point of collapse.

Hyper-modern design of room. Functional enough. No American style outlets.

Poor elevator maintenance. 2 inch gap between elevator and room level on ground floor.

15 euros to park at a Holiday Inn Express? The clerk said they all charge for parking in the Netherlands. The staff were there to collect money, in a polite way. They made no effort to be helpful.

The hotel overall was very good, the staff were excellent. The bed was awful very uncomfortable and the breakfast was very average. We knew the hotel was about 20 minutes from Amsterdam on the train, however trying to get change for the ticket machine at the station was a nightmare. If I return to Amsterdam I would stay in the city itself as when you add the train fares to the price of the hotel it isn't as reasonable as you think

Airport hotels, like all other lodging, probably exert the greatest effort to keep their guests safe. Right up there with safety for an airport hotel is getting the wake-up call right. Bring a wake-up device to this property!

Luckily we awoke by ourselves, about 35 minutes after the wake-up time we had requested, but in time to get some breakfast, board the shuttle, and get to Schipol. The hotel does not provide alarm clocks, so bring your own. We would definitely stay here again, but not without our own wake-up equipment.

Hoofddorp is a short walk from the hotel. There are shops and restaurants, even a shopping mall. The hotel provides a list of restaurants, and a map of how to get to them. There is everything you need in an airport hotel for that one-night stopover...except a wake-up guarantee!

Many TA contributors have criticized the hotel's charging for the shuttle ride to the airport. First, a word on how to get to the hotel from Schipol. At the airport, outside at the curb, there is a metal device with buttons. Press the Holiday Inn Express button, they answer, and they tell you when to expect the free shuttle. As for the trip to the airport, someone has to pay for the van, the fuel, and the driver. (We noticed that no one else tipped the driver.) They can raise the lodging rate or charge for the shuttle.

Perhaps Priority Club members could get a lower rate, pay with points, or get points for the shuttle fee. There could be some joining enticement from non-members: join, and your shuttle ride will cost less, or nothing. But somehow they have to pay for that ride.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room here.
