“New and beautiful hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2011

This Holiday Inn Express was great! Newly built in April 2011, it was very clean and the front desk was very hospitable. The room was very nice, modern, and a good size compared to other older hotels. The room had a great bathroom, flat screen tv and new furniture. The breakfast was delicious, one of the best continental spreads and service that I've seen! The manager was surveying the breakfast bar and if anything was low they were refilled right away. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The hotel isn't near anything, but we were on our way into Amsterdam Central and the train is about a 10 minute walk away and not hard to get to. Note that the train ticket dispensers there only took coins or the Maestro credit card. We didnt have either and found it difficult to get a ticket (ended up taking the train to Schiphol airport to get our tickets).

We got the room for a good deal so it was worth what we paid for. We were only there for one last night in Amsterdam before flying back home and it was great to have a nice place to stay for the night.

I stayed twice at this Holiday Inn Express, the day I landed and the day before I left Amsterdam. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport. Hotel shuttle is available outside the terminal at AMS. However, they only run once every hour. If you miss it, you can take the Crown Plaza shuttle, cause these two hotels are side by side. It is a free trip from the airport, but charges 7 EURO from hotel to airport.

This is a very modern hotel, newly constructed. Free parking next door. WiFi is free. The room is small, but is very clean, modern and comfortable. The bed, pillow and bedding are very comfortable. The included breakfast is wonderful. Fresh bread, cold cut, great coffee. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. The lobby has a big area with comfy sofa for a drink, chatting and reading.

Room Tip: Any room is good.

This is a small business hotel opposite to crown plaza. The hotel was clean and gave me comfortable sleep. The only downside was the restaurant. I am not sure whether there is one inside the hotel, but they do provide breakfast service. I did see people having their take away pizzas in the dining area.

Now the best part is, comparing to Crown Plaza and any other business hotels in Hoofddorp, I found this hotel with an excellent FREE WiFi access, which was brilliant!

They also provide a vending machine with a good selection of sandwiches and crisps.

This is a typical Holiday Inn Express. Very comfortable, clean, good wifi, and a decent complimentary breakfast. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes from the airport. The shuttle leaves the hotel twice an hour (I believe it's on the hour and half hour) and picks up and drops off at a designated spot at the airport. My only complaint is that they charge 7.50 Euros to take the shuttle to the airport (no charge to be picked up). I don't mind paying a couple of Euros, but I think that 7.50 is way too high (especially since it's only a short drive to the airport). If you're traveling with 3 or more people, it's more economical to get a taxi.

As others have said, there's not much around this hotel. I purchased food at the grocery store in the airport, so I didn't try to find any restaurants around the hotel. The Crowne Plaza is across the street, so if you don't want to walk far, you could have a meal there.

The hotel is new and has been opened in April 2011. We have stayed there for 4 nights and I could not find a single word of complaint for the standard provided by hotel. I do not really understand people complaining about cleanliness of the rooms as we even told housekeeping not to clean ours every day as there was no need for that if you keep your room tidy and save the towels (by the way I would like to ask how often those who complain change their towels at home-surely not every day). There is a nice flat 27" screen with impressive number of channels (over 40) plus radio stations. In the bathroom there is night light installed (blue) which as far as I remember is only in few Expresses in the UK. Generally rooms are nice with huge windows and therefore lots of natural daylights-big advantage. The air-con installed is very quite you hardly notice its presence although if you don't like air-con it would be nice if the windows could be opened even slightly by 2-3 inches to get fresh air. The noise from the taking off although present in a background is not annoying and rather it adds up a nice character of this place. Bed could be an issue and I personally think could be improved; despite its fact that double bed is huge (probably size of king size in UK) the mattress is soft and the best way for people who prefers firm mattress is to sleep across (if single in a room) or (like myself) on the edge of the bed where the mattress seems to be more firm. I have raised the issue with general manager of this property Ms Hubertine Klauwers (very professional and energetic lady) and been told that many other guests have noticed the same problem. I think it would be better to have rather more firm mattresses than those softy ones which reminds me of water beds (good for an entertainment of various kind but not for a sleeping). The room to conclude was good size, comfortable with desk lamp and good quality chair to sit.
Breakfast: we did not expect this selection of food in Express. There was more than enough of products form freshly boiled eggs, Nutella in small packets, individually wrapped salami, cheese and ham. The quality of coffee from the machine was closer to cafe that budget hotel; from its first day it was obvious for us that they are not cutting the costs on food quality as in the UK. Every product was EATABLE which could sound weird but based on my previous experiences I found many chain hotels tend to cut the corners. This one certainly does not on a breakfast products. Although they do not have a restaurant on site there is no need for it as there is nice selection of take-a-ways plus close proximity to slightly upmarket (mains from 20 Euro) restaurant in Hoopfdorp.

As we stayed over the bank holiday weekend we have seen breakfast invaded by the groups. Without prejudice these people tend to behave like someone who feasted for last days- they try to eat as much as possible and also take as much as they could. We saw massive amount of food being loaded onto plates and left wasted; also some of them took the whole lot of eggs just to take to yolks out and discard remains. I would suggest to management to simplify the breakfast menu over July and August when groups are or to charge them more for what they are taking. If you like quite and peaceful environment make sure to get breakfast before or after them (very early or very late). We were really sorry for the girls replenishing the food counter and clearing the tables after these pigs-the decency is the word they don't have a clue what it means.
Lobby area: free Wi-Fi and 2 free computer stations for the guests. Truly this is a perfect business spot and the hotel management should be proud of their product. It might looks from outside like another concrete brick but inside is enhanced by natural light bright and airy and it has lovely small bar with only Heineken on the tap (we found Amstel much better but it is a matter of taste). Their local bottled ‘wit beer’ or wheat beer is something worth to try and we found it exceptionally good citrus taste not so strong (contrary to Belgium beers).

To conclude to have had great long weekend in Hoopfdorp and Amsterdam and certainly we would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to explore Amsterdam without the crowd of the capital and also have a look at nice small town of Hoofdoorp (Friday market is a must with lots of eating stalls, fresh flowers and fruits).
Thank you very much Hubertine and all the team for making our short holiday truly enjoyable.

Room Tip: there is 122 bedroom so be nice upon check in
