“Convenient for airport and has regular shuttle service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

The hotel is situated in a nice quiet location just 15 minutes drive from the airport. A free shuttle service picks up at bus stop A9 outside Schipol (the very last hotel shuttle stand) and stops at Ibis, Ibis budget and Novotel before returning to the airport. The staff were friendly and polite (especially the bar staff in the basement bar). The hotel itself is not that special though and the rooms and furnishings could do with a bit of modernisation. The swimming pool and sauna facilities are complimentary (turkish baths were out of order). There's a €10 daily charge for use of the gymn though. There was a small fridge but no minibar, a kettle with limited tea and coffee but only paper cups, and there's no body lotion provided in the bathroom. The wifi service is very good though and provided free. The restaurant and breakfast is good and there's an Italian restaurant a short walk away but not much else to see or do in the vicinity. We took the shuttle bus back to Schipol to catch public transport to tour Amsterdam, so unless you need to be close to the airport I'd stay elswhere.

Room Tip: 4th floor or above is the best view but avoid being close to the lifts

This place is well located, close to the Airport with bus shuttle every 30 minutes. its an old place but well maintained and clean places to stay. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. This was something we noticed during our stay - all of the hotel people were extremely pleasant. Early breakfast is also arranged at 4AM for guest who have to leave early. Yes, its little expensive in comparison to the quality of the hotel! personally I would not be staying again!

The Novotel at AMS airport is about a 15-20 minute bus ride from the main Schipol terminal. To get your transport, you follow the signs for busses after arrivals and exit the terminal and turn to your right. Bus stops A9 to A13 are where the hotel and rental car busses pull in. The ACCOR HOTELS bus is a large bus (not a minibus) and comes roughly every 20 minutes depending on the time of day. It is free to use. There is a timetable although it is not at all obvious from the hotel web-site what this is. I had to e-mail and ask for the schedule! The bus serves the IBIS and IBIS BUDGET hotels first. If staying at IBIS or NOVOTEL you can use this free bus to get to and from the terminal where you can get regular trains downtown to AMS centraal station.

The hotel itself is fairly standard if you know what to expect from the Novotel brand. Free wifi, reasonably sized rooms, writing desk, tea/coffee, fridge, safe, etc. The rooms are a bit dated and will very soon be in need of a refurb… e.g. I haven’t been in a hotel that hasn’t moved over to flat screen TVs for a long time. In summary though, the rooms are perfectly functional, staff very amenable and helpful, etc.

The hotel bar and restaurant are a bit expensive price wise. There are two independent restaurants just over the road from the place – although these are not that cheap either. A 10-15 minute walk you find a small town centre for this airport community. There are a few small supermarkets, a couple of fast food joints, a couple of bars and a restaurant. This is where plenty of local busses come in.

Like many airport hotels, this place suffers from the tourist bus-group syndrome. Unfortunately, a busload of about 40 camera drunk Orientals (Japanese or Chinese??) had arrived about 5 minutes before I did. This meant that the reception area was in utter chaos with bags, chatter and amusing picture taking of inanimate objects such as fire extinguishers and parking ticket machine was going on all around but I eventually got checked in after about 20 minutes!

Getting a short taxi ride to where I was working the next day proved a bit of a hassle. Booked a taxi nice and early but when came to get it, no sign of it. The company was hopeless and later informed the hotel they had picked up the wrong person – erm, I don’t think so as we were waiting well before the allotted time. Got some transport in the end but 45 minutes after we ordered the taxi and had to negotiate with a separate company ourselves to get it and were late for the meeting!

In summary, functional stay but local transport absolutely rubbish. Bit pricey accommodation - €150 / night without breakfast is really not worth it! The main advantage for this airport hotel location is that you are easy walking distance to some civilisation compared to some other AMS airport hotels like Best Western, NH and to some extent Crowne Plaza which leave you isolated in essentially the middle of nowhere. Downside for me I felt that the price / quality ratio was very poor and I will be looking to find a more modern place next time I am staying nearby to AMS!

Hope this helps!

We spent a week driving around Holland an Belgium and because we wanted maximum flexibility we didn't book hotels in advance- which led to not finding any reasonably priced hotels in central Amsterdal over the weekend. We made Novotel a home for thankfully only one night. If you need to be close to the airport it's an acceptable choice as many travellers have already noted. If you want to see Amsterdam than forget about it: it's far away and truly a 2 star choice.

Enjoyed our stay at the Novotel Amsterdam Airport. The free and frequent shuttle to and from the airport is very convenient and takes roughly 10 minutes. Novotel is uniquely situated just outside Amsterdam and we had a lovely country side view. It was clean, modern and comfortable and no big city noise. I definitely would go back again. The only fly in the ointment was that breakfast was rather pricey and although the hotel supplies enough regular towels, they do not supply wash cloths.
Awkward.

When I would use the toilet . I found that the flash of the water was not flew normally, even stop flowing. I called front office and not more then 10 minutes someone knocked the door to check the toilet. He said that will send a technician to repair the toilet.

After ariving back from outside of the hotel, I found that toilet already worked normally. But, my information that one of spot lamp in the toilet that already broken, not be changed by the technician

Stayed here for the second time, it is about 10 minutes by airport shuttle bus from Schiphol. The shuttle belongs to Accor, so it stops at the Ibis and Ibis Budget hotel as well. Novotel is probably the best of their products. Nice room, free wifi, clean bath, nice bathub. Safe is hard to open with a magnet card. TV has a few international channels as well. No flatscreen TV yet. Heat/AC is nice. There is an empty fridge in the room as well. Location is a little lonely, only one brasserie seems to be in walking distance and the hotel restaurant I found a little overprized (main courses beteween 14-30 Euros). Staff is nice and they have a steam room/sauna/pool. Good if you have a flight the next morning or just want to crash after a long distance-flight.

Room Tip: ask for a room with airport view. It´s NOT noisy but you can watch the planes take off and land.
