“It Fills a Need With a 90's Vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

My normal experience of Novotel hotels (Paddington and Reading in the UK) are of
stylish places that ooze modernity in decor and facilities. Well, this isn't one of them but it does get a lot of things right.

From check-in through to the restaurant, bar - and even the somewhat twee gift shop - I was met by well-intentioned staff. Check-in was efficient, the restaurant and bar friendly and pleasant and check-out equally organised. The place was very well-kept, it was clean and everything worked.

What lets it down is the antiquity of the rooms: I can't remember the last time I saw an old-style non-flatscreen television in a room, but this place still has them. Similarly the furniture was a bti ancient, although it was all in good condition. I can only repeat that it was spotless and in good condition, but for EUR125/night it could be better.

For what I needed - a bed, something to eat and an easy trip to/from Schipol, it was fine. It's the kind of functional place that delivers a service in an easy to use form that tired long-haul passengers transferring between flights would fall into gratefully. It would be OK base for tourism around the area, but you;d be better off staying Amsterdam if you;re taking a city break.

As for the pricing, I would struggle to justify this if I'd been paying for myself (I was on business) given the cheaper options nearby.

It is always a pleasure to stay at this hotel. I often stay here alone and with a heavy suitcase I am very happy to have the luggage elevator at the entrance. Travel to the airport is convenient, either with car or the shuttlebus, and you are not in the middle of traffic. The rooms are quiet, food is good, staff is helpful and friendly. If I had one complaint it would be that the covers on the bed are almost uncomfortably hot, but that is a personal issue.
Prices have gone up but you can still get a good deal here.

This Novotel is a bit remote, not at the airport, but next door you find excellent indoor tennis and squash courts, and a large fitness/health centre. These facilities are NOT part of the hotel, but really next door and have a reasonable price level. So, if you want to get/stay fit on your Amsterdam stop-over, this is the place to be.

Rooms and facilities of this hotel are standard Novotel, noting it looks like it could have some refurnishing.

The staff is well trained and very help full, the restaurant menu average up to good, the breakfast really well done, with lots of organic choices.

The swimming pool at this Novotel is small, and lacks atmosphere, but for a quick pre breakfast swim it will do.

Be aware: it's located at the edge of a insignificant village a twenty miles from downtown Amsterdam. But the sport facilities next door at this Novotel are excellent!

On checking in early no rooms for you until 2 pm or you ca pay 15 Euros extra. For they do have rooms. Then the Internet usage is 5.95 Euros for 24 hours Offered no hep with my bags though I am using a cane.
Hotel very dated given my expectations of a Novotel standard. Would not stay here again.

When I checked in, I asked if breakfast was included in the rate. The cashier said "yes." I then asked the next morning at the restaurant. They said "yes. It is complimentary with your room." When I went to check out, they charged me 20 euros per person for the breakfast. I complained but she said "sorry. It was not included." The service was terrible also. People were rude and not willing to help with anything when asked. All in all, it was way more expensive than what they advertised and not satisfying either.

After staying at CitizenM hotel the night before this seemed very dated. Room smelled of smoke and got moved to another room which smelled foosty. Very old tv. Had late check out as my husband was working in the lounge area. We were constantly being asked if we wanted to purchase drinks which made us feel unwelcome. Not much more to say realy other than wouldnt stay here again....the days are gone for this type of hotel which is obviously why at a very busy weekend in Amsterdam rooms were still available.

Room Tip: Dont bother
