“Nice introduction to Europe!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

Went on a whirlwind three week tour of Europe with my baby (20yr old) sister which kicked off in Amsterdam. Normally I travel on my own and "slum it" in backpacker accommodation, but because I had my sis with me and it was her first ever overseas trip, I thought it was best that I up the ante with accommodation - without breaking the bank of course!

This hotel was what I call "standard traveller accommodation". It was very clean and very comfortable, but nothing spectacular. A few restaurants are located within the hotel (we only did the standard continental brekkie though) as well as a little souvenier shop which was surprisingly worth a look - very reasonable prices!

The hotel is near the airport, not in the city, so a taxi trip is required to go exploring the museums, coffee shops and the red light district - especially if you're out late and the airport trains have stopped running. A one way taxi fare was about 40 euro which I thought was pretty steep!

Recommended for a short stop-over.

10 minute free shuttle ride from bus area just outside arrival area. Booked day room by calling hotel directly as the website does not allow this. Booked family room on first floor that included with beds and 2 LCD tv's and bathroom with usual amenities but no complimentary tea coffee - also had an area where the kids could sit and write. Paid $65 for 2 adults and 3 small children.

Stayed for a late-night stopover, so it was fine - cheap, clean, good breakfast, good shower in a small bathroom. A bit in-your-face in that it is quite busy in reception, lots of corridoors with lots of rooms, a long way to the breakfast room etc. If I'd had even a few more hours I'd have probably stayed in Amsterdam itself.

The shuttle bus is free and regular. Don't be tempted by a taxi even if it is late (around midnight) and you're cold, tired and on expenses because I was charged 25 euros for a 3 mile ride.

The Ibis at Schiphol lies in the middle of nowhere and can be reached through a frequent, free shuttle bus that takes 10-15 minutes.
Rooms are small, but clean and equipped with all one needs for a night at the airport. There are various restaurants within the hotel, a bar, a small shop and a small gym.
This is transit space: few people stay more than one night and the hotel could be anywhere in the world. But it serves its purpose.
I enjoyed watching the rabbits that frequent the lawns at night, though presumably they're not part of hotel policy.

Having stayed at the Ibis Amsterdam Airport twice now I can say that it has been a surprisingly good find. Regular free shuttles run on time between Schiphol and the hotel, which isn't located too far away, and the schedule is posted at convenient locations for easy access. Checking in and out was a breeze and the staff at the hotel are knowledgeable and eager to help. Food was good with a variety of restaurants to choose from.

I would say that I made a better choice staying at this hotel than the one in town even though it was a minor inconvenience to have to take the shuttle and train into Amsterdam every day. Also great for those who only have a short stay in Amsterdam before catching their next flight. Good prices, clean and quiet environment, convenient and with all the amenities you could want. I will definitely be staying here again.

It is a quiet and clean hotel, but it is in the middle of nowhere. The only option to go to the city is by hotel shuttle shared by three hotels. You can add maybe 20-40 euro for a much better located hotel if you prefer to take a half day tour in the city because you save a lot of time!
