This is a rambling 'village' more than a hotel, set on quite a steep hilside overlooking and with a fantastic view of Lake Garda. The Hotel is putting much effort into making the site pretty with planting and Flowers over and above it's 'natural' assets.
Our room was at the very top of the site, set in the terraces of the original Lemon Groves and with a fabulous view.
In fact, although on half-board, we were given a whole apartment to ourselves, with a good sized downstairs area and a 'gallery' bedroom above. Having been warned that hotel rooms in Lake Garda area tend to be smaller than the norm, due to restricted building space, we were thrilled with the amount of space made available to just 2 of us. The apartment could be a bit cramped if accommodating a family though. The Apartment was thouroughly cleaned daily and new towels provided. The Balcony 'interconnected' across all the rooms in our row, but was still private & spacious enough, there was a bit too much spare furniture there though!
Wandering around the site was quite interesting, trying to work out how they had developed it from the Lemon Groves, there were 2 Waterfalls cascading down the rocks at the back which made for some interesting walks.
The Outside swimming pool is a decent size with a good view, and was always immaculately clean. There is a snack-bar by the pool, and a Bar/Restaurant just below which houses the Indoor Pool and the Health Spa (we did not visit this). The Pizzas & Ice-creams and other food served at this Bar/Restaurant looked very good.
The food provided at the Hotel Restaurant was fine. I have to admit it was not 'gourmet' Italien food, and perhaps slightly lacking in imagination. However, everything was freshly prepeared, servings were ample, and we found the Dining Room staff very pleasant. I really cannot see how anyone could describe the food here as 'Horrible'. Anyway, for the cost of our holiday, if we HAD decided to eat out, it would not have been a major disaster!
OK so this Hotel is 'out of town' but the walk along the lake into Limone was not a bad one, and the Shuttle Bus is 'prompt' and returns time again for 'extras' as others have described. The Only disadvantage really was that the bus has it's last run at 9pm, so if you want to go into Limone after dinner, you could ride there, but would have to walk or take a Taxi back, not very conducive to visiting the few late-night spots that exist!
In-house entertainment provided on 2 nights was supplied by an act WE named Erico Clapton! A One-man-band of Gituar, Keyboard and Backing Tracks. He was from the scool of 'it's-so-bad-it's-good!' and certainly kept us amused. He played continuously in the Central bar from 8pm to 12.00am and did his best to accommodate what the audience wanted in terms of music to dance to. One night some Dutch Couples gave us a good demonstration of their Balroom skills, we joined in with our Modern Jive and the German ooommpah music supplied some lively Polkas and Handslappen! Quite a Laugh. The Other night Erico invited a young 'Lionoli Ritchie' to join him, with what must be one of the best Italien Karaoke voices! You could not fault Erico for trying, and for aiming to please and entertain his audience, Hats Off to him!
As ever with our holidays, this was a last minute cheapie special. I think we ended up in one of the Prettiest spots in Limone, with a relaxing atmsophere, interesting history, helpful staff and reasonable food. IMO this was very good value for Money.
Having driven around the Lake on a trip to Verona, passing through Riva Del Garda, Torbole, Malchesine & Garda, I think that Limone itself has to be the prettiest place on the North of Lake Garda and was not sorry at all to have chosen this resort over Malchesine which were the 2 options available to us at booking time.
Lake Garda is a very relaxing place, and even better if you get to live in the Lemon Groves!
