We stayed at the Hotel Splendid Palace mid September with friends. We had lovely rooms on Floor 2, great views, and our balcony was complete private , not overlooked at all. Cleaning staff very efficient, who came in daily. All the staff including waiters, chefs, bar staff were friendly and helpful.
We went half board, as we do not like looking for restaurants every evening, and we made the right choice. The choices at breakfast and evening meal were fantastic. We were there 11 days and had something different each night. I like buffet service, the only small downside being that it is a bit hectic with everyone getting up and down and serving themselves, but that apart, eating in the hotel was very enjoyable.
We spent three days going on trips . Verona was lovely. Lots of street artists there too. Also of course the famous Juliet's balcony. Most of the other days we sunbathed in the little private lemon grove available to guests, but which you have to ask for the code to get into the secret garden. We don't think many people realised it was there.
On one evening as we sat in the square having a drink, some opera singers came and treated us to an hour and a half of various songs. They were fantastic. There was probably a couple of hundred people all seated in the square. They do these special do's on Sunday evenings. It was a lovely atmosphere. Limone is a lovely little place. Probably not for people with mobility problems as it is a bit of a slope walking back to the hotel.
All in all a very nice relaxing holiday. The only downside was nothing to do with the hotel, and that was that we had booked ten thirty evening flights from Verona home to Gatwick, so the last day was rather a long one, although the hotel very kindly looked after our luggage until the taxi picked us up . Would definitely recommend this hotel.
