A converted monastery on a hilltop overlooking the walled town of Monteriggioni, 15K north of Siena, La Caminata has a selection of apartments available for rent. We stayed in Il Forno, a one-bedroomed, ground floor apartment. The borgo is perfectly situated with excellent views of Monteriggioni. The town
is a 10 minute stroll and offers a small piazza with a couple of good restaurants and a bar for that glass of pre-dinner prosecco. The borgo itself has a compact but more than adequate swimming pool and plenty of space in the grounds to while away a lazy lunch. The apartment we stayed in was spacious and with all the necessary bits and pieces: fridge, oven, microwave and four ring hob. There is also an excellent supermarket about 10K north along the autostrada offering a comprehensive range of Italian produce (particularly a very tasty tiramasu). The fittings were of good standard, the bed very comfortable and the rooms refreshingly cool after a day in the hot Tuscan sun. There are several walks and bicycle routes adjacent to the accommodation through the Tuscan hills and woods - some more challenging than others! This is a good place for those looking for a relaxing week. It may be slightly quiet for those with children with the pool providing the only real entertainment. For those needing their 24 hour news fix it should be noted there are no televisions in the apartments. Overall a good base for exploring Tuscany, convenient for both Siena and Florence.
