“The real Tuscany experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

We stayed for 7 nights at this beautiful B&B and would recommend it to anyone.
Location: Central for exploring the area both large and small cities. It is located in a rural location (and the great news is once you've found it - Claudia and Carlo provide a typed instruction list of how to get to lots of places in the area). You could easily drive to Siena and Monteriggioni within 10-15 minutes.
Room: Attention to detail would be my best description - as others have said it is an amazing building. The room was made up every day - toilettries replaced, bed linen changed half way through our stay, extra glasses or cups depending on what you need and more!. It didn't need air conditioning and it was 35 degrees when we were there! We had amazing views over the hillside and we would see deer in the mornings!
Breakfast: We were initially the only guests - yet it was a banquet fit for ten! If we went out early on a day trip (and I mean early!!!) we'd be left some breakfast AND juice and bottles of water for our journey! Finding out our favourite tea type is another example of attention to detail. Breakfast includes meats, cheeses, eggs cooked for us, cake, toast, fruit... we ate well.
Our stay: The BEST part was all the help for planning our week - met with a map, instructions, lots of books and tips of where to go - BRILLIANT! We did visit Rome and the help of printing train times etc were very thoughtful.
Wildlife: A chance to see wild boar, deer (we even saw a badger!)... All at a safe distance!
Accommodation: Bedroom and bathroom to ourselves, shared living room and dining area. We would have dinner (that we'd buy - after all it is a B&B and NOT a hotel!) - but they'd lay a table for us and we had a treat from them of some Chianti!
The surroundings had hammocks set up, a swimming pool, chairs in the sun and shade around this tranquil place... You could use it as a base or as a full on 'do nothing' B&B...
We have nothing but praise for our stay here. Thank you Claudia and Carlo.

“Best of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We've stayed in many B&Bs all over the world and very few reach the level of La Canonica di Fungaia. Claudia and Carlo's heart and soul make the place a precious place to stay. The location and buildings are stunningly beautiful as well as historical, the breakfasts were lovely, and the rooms comfortable and clean. Claudia and Carlo were exceedingly helpful: making us dinner the first night because we arrived after a long day, providing us with sightseeing advice, showing us the church next door, and making a phone call for us because we don't speak Italian. We felt right at home and wished we could have stayed longer.

“so grateful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

The owners of this wonderful, peaceful b & b were so generous and kind to my daughter and me that we will be forever grateful. Be aware that this is truly in the country, a wonderful centuries-old house located down a winding dirt road in a tiny village. They serve a delightful breakfast (such as eggs with ricotta cheese from a nearby farm) but not lunch or dinner. There are wonderful hiking trails just behind the house. The pool--given the heat in late June--was a godsend. And one can drive to Siena in about 20 minutes or into the countryside to explore or to the castle of Monterrigioni for a wonderful dinner. Highly recommend it for a combination of seeing sights and taking a break from sight-seeing. Be aware, there is no air-conditioning here and this is not a luxury establishment but it is wonderful. You must have a car. Thank you for everything, Claudia and Carlo!

“Perfect for relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

After driving the dirt-road to Fungaia, we were stunned with the beautiful house that is La Canonica di Fungaia. At first we thought we had the wrong address, but yes, you should drive to the smal church. The church of Fungaia is in fact on thesame property.

Fungaia itself only housed four families while we were there. It was being renovated (Italian style, so it may take some time). You have nice hiking and cycling tracks around.

From a terrace you can see Siena in the distance, which is only a 15 minutes drive away. In the other direction you have the little town of Monteriggioni, also about 15 minutes away.

And in between, at La Canonica, you have utter silence where you can rest, relax in various lovely spots and even hammocks, have a nice swim at the pool, or sit in the common living room.

Claudia & Carlo are perfect hosts and did everything to make our 2 days here just perfect. We were truly being spoilt. Originally they are from Rome, so naturally they have first hand information of that city, but they have lots of recommendations for the local Siena area. One of their sons is a professional photographer, his photos can be found on the walls... you should check www.tommasogalli.it for more.

Breakfast is so much and lovely you want to try everything (but if you do, you will pop out of your pants/skirt/dress). It is not possible to have dinner here, this is a good opportunity to visit Monteriggioni (ask Claudia for recommendations).

The rooms are very nice and traditional decorated, with a very good and clean bathroom. Thanks to the thick walls, it was pleasantly cool (no airco available, but not necessary despite the 35+ degees outside).

All in all a little gem to come back to!

NB: We left a (bookcrossing.com) book here for other Dutch travelers to enjoy.

“Peaceful and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights while we drove around Tuscany. Situated a 20 minute drive from Siena and even closer to Monterigioni and San Gimignano, this B&B is in a delightful spot off the beaten track, with beautiful scenery and grounds, a swimming pool and fabulous hosts (Claudia and Carlo) for whom nothing was too much bother.
It's not by any means a 5 star city hotel but it's clean, well kept, and a perfect place to get away from it all.
I'd recommend this to anyone travelling in the area or as a stop-off along the way on a bigger journey.
Note, you must have a car to stay here and be prepared to drive along a gravel track for about 7 minutes off the main road - interesting at night, potential for spotting some good wildlife as well.
