Having spent a week driving around the island (not being one for static sunning) I can honestly say that Lindos is by far the best resort on the island. It has the charm of a medieval village and the beauty of the Acropolis and St Paul's Bay.
Lindos Horizons was our hotel which is situated under the mountain west of the town of Lindos. It is far enough away to be peaceful but near enough to walk into town or visit other hotels for events.
The hotel is expertly run and is clean and fresh looking. It has a pool and bar with food during the day and snacks available in the evening. The once per week BBQ is good value and the host Stavros, is and excellent manager. Stavros goes out of his way to provide friendly service. Top marks. The self catering apartments are cleaned every day and beds made etc. As self catering goes the facilities are a bit basic, two hobs and a fridge, we never cooked an evening meal but used our facilities for breakfast and lunch only.
There is a small supermarket tucked away 200 yards which can supply most things, and the hotel is far enough from the main road past Lindos to make the evening air a peaceful experience. It's the donkeys and the crickets which make the loudest noises!
Unless you want to stay by the pool or use the very pretty St Paul's Bay beach or the large beach on the other side of the town, then you might want to rent a car. Areas of interest are spread across the island and the city of Rhodes itself is worth a day/night visit - the old city is magnificent and a UNESCO world heritage centre.
Film lovers may discover that "The Guns Of Navarone" was filmed on the island; several locations were used including Rhodes old city, Lindos Acropolis and Eleousa in the centre of the island.
