“A relaxing week's break at Lindos Mare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2011

Having arrived after a late night/early morning flight it was lovely to be met and swiftly checked into the hotel room. We were taken by a very curtious porter to our room which entailed using 4 lifts and a flight of stairs. Our room had a lovely view of the bay as do most of the rooms as far as I can tell. The room was air conditioned and kept lovely and clean by the very attentive staff.

The staff in the dining room work really hard to take your order for the main meal, however the other courses are self service and on a Sunday night it is a self service buffet. Gentlemen must be aware of the dress code (long trousers) or else a quiet word in the ear is delivered!

There are 2 pools, the lower one which was closer to our room is smaller but tends to be quieter and was free of children when we stayed there but this may be because the childrens pool is on the higher level with the larger pool.

The hotel offered half board but it is possible to swop the evening meal for a voucher upto the value of 12 euro per person in the party. This needs to be booked before 12 noon on the day you wish to use it and can be used to purchase lunch in the al la carte restuarant but doesnt include any drinks. Drinks not included in the voucher price and any food purchased over the 12 euro per person is added to your room account. However this does give the option to go into Lindos for an evening meal and get some variety.

My only compliant about the experience would be the main courses, we found them to lack variety ie 2 choices and a vegetarian choice. On 2 occasions we found the main meals to be over cooked and tough. Other than this we would not have any compliants regarding the food.

Taxis into Lindos cost 8 euros in and 6 euros back. The hotel will order the outward trip for you from reception and the taxi arrives within 5 minutes. To get the return taxi just call at the taxi rank. We also used the bus to get into Rhodes town. This took just over 1hour and cost 5 euros per person each way.

If you wish to go to the Acropolis in Lindos its worth getting up early to beat the coach tours and get in. Its well worth the effort and at that time of the morning the heat isnt too stiffling.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: As far as I am aware most rooms have a sea view. However as the hotel is built into the side of the...

We have just returned from the Lindos Mare Hotel and have only the highest praise for the hotel, its location and the staff who work there. I have never written a review before (although I always read them) but felt compelled to do one now (especially after reading BarneyMcGrew999 's review).

Our room was very spacious, spotlessly clean and had a view to die for - especially from the bathroom!. It had a huge balcony, where we enjoyed many chats with the "neighbours" and was cleaned meticulously every day.Tea and coffee facilities were provided and the hairdryer was very good (Phillips and portable, not wired into the bathroom as so many are!).

The food was excellent; plenty of choice, always hot and the waiters and waitresses very attentive and friendly. We did the a la carte one evening for the Greek night and had a table overlooking the bay in the open air and were waited on hand and foot complete with entertainment that was traditional and involved all the staff - some of whom were excellent dancers!! Yes you pay a bit more for it, but you would expect to, you are getting more than you do in the geneal restaurant. Lunch in the a la carte or poolside restaurants were excellent value for money - much cheaper than eating out locally.

Pools - there are 2 pools and we never had a problem getting a sunbed. There are bars serving whatever you want by both pools and they are both kept very clean. Towels are provided for you to use on the beach or by the pools and can be changed every other day.

Beach - is most definitely very sandy - didn't see any shingle whatsoever. Plenty of beds and a lovely waiter who makes the long trek up to the bar to get you any refreshments that you require and will always have a chat with you. He also keeps an eye on any beds that are "reserved" for too long which is good.

STAFF - Absolutely first class!! We made friends with so many of them and were sad to leave. They really made us feel like they had known us for years. Including Reception who were so helpful - even when we e mailed them before our arrival - we always got a prompt response and they were always extremely helpful. I cannot remember all the names but they take a great pride in their staff and, in turn, the staff take great pride in what they do and it reflects in their attitude to the people staying there. They were also great fun and excellent at dancing and singing.

Overall, we both felt that our feelings about the Lindos Mare were shared by all the other guests that we met there (and we met so many people from so many parts of the world in our 10 day stay there). We are quite particular about where we stay and this hotel exceeded our expections in so many ways.

Our only "gripe" is that when we booked earlier in the year, we could not book any longer than a 10 day stay (we wanted 2 weeks). They were fully booked - need we say more!!

If you're booked to go - lucky you - you will enjoy!!!

Room Tip: Get a sea view - its worth it

Our second visit to Lindos Mare, having been there in September 2009 we have just returned from enjoying another fabulous 2 weeks 10th to 24th September 2011. Being familiar with the layout of this Hotel we emailed them in advance and requested a room around level D or E which in our opinion is the best level for access to Reception, mini shop, pool bar and restaurant, all places we would be visiting regularly during our stay. They very kindly were able to accommodate our request and we were allocated room 125, junior suite, stunning sea view, complimentary safe, fridge, kettle tea/coffee, bottle of wine and plate of fresh fruit.
As you no doubt have established, if you have read other reviews re Lindos Mare, there are lots of steps (205 from reception down to the beach) but there are lifts between most levels.
As returning guests we were welcomed by those staff who we got to know on our last visit, not just a 'hello. nice to see you again' but a full on cheer and hug and a genuine welcome back, like a returning member of the family.
The food in the restaurant is outstandingly good. The Hotel Assistant Manager Michalis, (who is always on duty in the restaurant at every meal time) informed us there is a new chef who is an award winning chef, and you can tell. We were able to feast on an ample selection for breakfast which lasted us throughout the day, without snacking, until dinner at 7pm. Then dinner is amazing - 2 choices of soup, 8 choices of fresh fruit, multiple choices of fresh salad both Greek and vegetarian, various cheeses and cold meats, 3 choices of hot buffet, and then 2 choices of main course and finally, if you can manage it at least - no joke - 20, yes that's twenty, choices of dessert. Truly amazing, and that's every day, different selection each day.
If you prefer you can arrange for a voucher to the value of your evening meal and dine a'la carte in the open terrace over looking the Vlicha Bay, wonderful.
Previous reviews have highlighted how good this hotel is and we are thankful that it is even better than our last visit 2 years ago. There are repeated criticisms about the cramped feel in the dining room and justifiably so, however we are informed that during the winter this year the hotel is planning to have alterations and extensions, including providing an open terrace to the present dining room which will provide a greater eating area and therefore hopefully address this problem.
Yes the drinks prices are on the pricey side, but this is a quality hotel and the prices generally in Greece are now getting expensive
We intend to return next year to check out the alterations, sufficient to say, we love this hotel, the service, the staff, the food, the location even the entertainment.
The Operations Manager Nicholas, Assistant Manager Michalis and all the staff are doing a fantastic job and deserve repeat custom, so we'll return next year.
Best wishes to them all. Graham & Helen Kirk

Firstly...everyone is entitled to an opinion but i have to say having just gone through the review from BarneyMcgrew999 i truly think he must have stayed in a different hotel!

i recently got married in Lindos at St Pauls bay and stayed with my entire family, age ranging from 14 - 85 at the Lindos Mare for 2 weeks.

The actual facilities available at the hotel are great, simple gym, great spar, good variety of eating areas, adequate shop on site. The pool area is fantastic with a separate kiddies pool, plentiful good quality lounges and great snack / drinks options. The location being sat within a hillside offers truly amazing views to the coastline and we all found the beech clean and not too busy.

The hotel exceeded my expectations. Our room in particular (3111) was lovely with an amazing sea view on the first floor.

The food here is varies and wonderful - the selection at breakfast and dinner is huge and its really good that you can swap your dinner for lunch or in the al la carte.

What really made our wedding / holiday memorable were the staff. We have stayed in some top class hotels all over the world and i have to say the staff here surpass them all. To name a few Michael the hotel general manager is so personable he made an effort to remember all of our parties names. He even went as far as changing his tie one evening to reflect the football team i support. Efi the hotels wedding planning was absolutely fantastic and even came in on her day off to ensure all the arrangements for our big day went smoothly. From Dimitri the porter to Gabrielle the waitress the staff could not do enough for you.

We will certainly be returning to celebrate our anniversary as the whole experience was fantastic the atmosphere of the hotel itself to the wonderful team of staff. A great wedding / holiday.

Room Tip: Due to the location of the hotel check the location of your room prior to booking. Strongly suggest...

Stayed at the Lindos Mare Hotel for a week 14/21 September 2011 ( also stayed in June 2011 for 11 days) from the minute we arrived to leaving as usual it met our expectations and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.
Our room was good with amazing views (3110) and adequate for the 3 Adults , we have no complaints on decor etc.
As usual the food was of a 4 star quality and plenty of choice. Also you had the option of changing your dinner meal option to a lunch voucher to a value of 12 euro each person which then enabled you to go into lindos for evening meal if you chose to do so ( which we advise you to do as we did).
All Staff and management made our holiday more enjoyable and made us feel welcome.
The Lindos mare is built on hillside and is not really for the immobile but makes a change from the usual high rise hotel block. The beach is sandy and nearly private and the sea is shalllow and clear. Lindos is well worth a visit but it is a must for an evening and not during the day due to high temperature.
We will be certainly returning next year

Room Tip: Advise Junior Suite and not a ground floor room , the higher floors have the best views

ROOMS: When we first arrived (very late after a delayed flight of 7 hours) we were shown to what was supposed to be a 4* suite. This room was ABSOLUTELY APPALLING. The furniture was stained and ripped and decor was very old and worn out, the room smelt and felt damp and the bathroom grout was stained and the decor was probably ok in 1970 but not 40 years later . Bear in mind that I had paid for an a la cart holiday , (one of Thomsons premier holidays) for my 50th birthday costing lots ,and they gave us one of the worst rooms available. We complained the following day and were moved the following afternoon . The room we moved to was one of the newly renovated rooms, which is what I had paid for in the first place . Still this was enough to ruin the first few days and taint the holiday memories .

FOOD: Nothing special really , very hot dining area , all the tables are too close together . Do not eat in the A La Carte restaurant , because it is no better than the food in the main restaurant , it just costs more .

POOL; The pool area is poor . It consists of a pool surrounded by a layer of timber decking and is always very overcrowded . The limited amount of loungers there are , are supposed to provide all the hotels guests with a comfortable seat around the pool . There are over 300 rooms at the Mare!! The small pool was tiny .

BEACH: The beach directly below the hotel is a small strip of shingle (not soft sand as appears in brochures) and is PUBLIC not private.

CAR HIRE: We hired a car with the man in the hotel reception , make sure that you get a full day 24 hours , as the car hire man thinks that one day is 9 in the morning to 9 at night ( if your lucky )and got very officious when i wanted the car for the full 24 hour period and made out he was doing me a favour . .

STAFF: Indifferent , not as friendly as you are led to beleive in other reviews . Some are not happy at all and dont even try to make you feel welcome , especially the reception staff , who make you feel like you are an annoyance and are disturbing them.

Do yourself a big favour. If you're used to 4 star and 5 star hotels, look elsewhere ( another country maybe ).

Greece in general has lost its charm , and is very , very ,expensive ( Think West End prices and more ) and is now all about money , money , money !

Room Tip: Do not accept a room in the lower part of the hotel as these are old , tired , shabby , oppressive d...

LINDOSMARE, Quality Manager at Lindos Mare Hotel, responded to this review, October 12, 2011
Dear Guest,
We would like to thank you for spending your valuable time and giving us your feedback through trip advisor.
We are genuinely concerned to read your comments about rooms, pools, beach, and car hire, however judging by your comments it seems that you were more dissatisfied with the whole holiday package. Lindos Mare Hotel, was built in 1992 and since then has been refurbished 3 times. It has in total 142 rooms and not 300 rooms as you mentioned. It offers 95% sea view rooms and there are two outdoor swimming pools and a separated children pool where there are more than 100 sunbeds around.
We would like to apologize for any frustration caused during your first night at our resort, but due to a mistake with our charting, we were unable to accommodate you in your booked room type from the first night. Next day we allocated you at your booked room type.
Having read your further comments about the food and beverage departments we would like to point out that the majority of our guests find this aspect to excel in both its’ tastes and the service delivered especially after the recent renovations and felt sadden to note that you did not like the experience
Vlicha bay, the beach in front is awarded with blue flag and it is considered as one of the best beaches on island. According to Greek law there are not private beaches in Greece, however the part in front of our resort is rented from the Municipality of Lindos for the use of our guests. There we offer sunbeds / umbrellas without charge as well as waiter service. We feel sorry to note that this was not the ideal beach anticipated for your holiday.
For the record we would like to clarify that the rental car company is a privately running company and is not belong to our Organization chart however in our 4 years cooperation we have never received negative feedback
We are always sorry to read that there was a reason to be dissatisfied with your stay in our hotel and especially when it comes to Reception staff and can only apologize for any inconvenience caused. We rarely receive any complaints in regards to this hotel aspect and would like to assure you that this must have been an isolated event which will be investigated further. Even though we frankly believe that a brief conversation with the Front Office Manager or our Hotel Manager would have resolved the issue on the spot.
Once again thank you for your feedback and look forward to welcoming you again at Lindos Mare Resort in the near future.
Kind Regards
Quality Manager

Stayed at the Lindos Mare Hotel Sept 2011 and while I cannot complain about the Holiday Overall, there are a few things potential Holiday Makers should be aware of; Firstly, be aware that the Night Flights to Rhodes seemed ok going out, we departed 10.40pm, arriving at the hotel at 05.30am local time the flight back was 06.05am having been picked up from the resort at 03.05am - Normal check out is 12.00 the previous day!! You can get a late check out with Thomson for 40 pounds, though we were able to extend this to 12.00 midnight for 30 euro extra. Rooms - Our room was located quite a way from the reception area, down a series of lifts and a Venicular yes the Hotel is built into the side of a mountain and is very steep with LOTS of steps, Older generations and Mothers be aware, its not impossible to stay here, just awkward using small lifts. When we got to our room, we were pleasantly surprised and had a great view over the Sea, well worth paying for this. Food - Meals were very good, we stayed on a Half Board Basis and the Hotel gave us vouchers to the value of 12 euro each, on the days we decided to take a Lunch instead of a Dinner. Staff - Very nice and could not do enough for you!! Drinks, similar to having a drink in UK e.g. Beer 4 euro, Gin and Tonic 5.70 euro. Hotel also provided entertainment 2 nights during our stay, not too bad!
Location - If you are looking for regular trips into the nearest town, Lindos,be aware that you will need to either hire a car, or get a Taxi, the Hotel does not provide a courtesy Bus, Taxis cost 8 euro for a short trip, if booked by the Hotel and 6 euro for the return journey ,go figure!! All in all I would give the Hotel 7 out of 10 and say pretty expensive compared to others.
Did Not rate the Thomson Flights at all, staff rude and plane pretty dirty. The extra leg room we paid for, pathetic. My partner and I travel quite a lot and would recommend other charter companies.

Room Tip: Pay for the Sea View!
