Everything you read about Lindos Mare and Lindos itself is true - the place is just adorable and out of this world! We traveled as a big group of 16, family and friends, to Lindos for our wedding which was held on 17th Aug 2011 at St Paul's Bay. We then had a reception back at the Lindos Mare Hotel where the majority of us were staying.
We arrived at Lindos Mare on 10th Aug around 11pm where my fiance & I were checked in by the lovely Efi who personally showed us to our room. When we booked with the travel agent we requested a sea view and boy were we given a view - it actually brought tears to my eyes! We were given room 142 which is just above reception level and over looks the whole of Vlicha Bay. The balcony was big and open air (some are covered over) and the room itself was spacious with a massive bed. Also, there was a few personal touches waiting for us such as a bathrobe and slippers each, along with a bottle of champagne on ice and a fruit bowl, our luggage was also delivered to our room by the charming porter Dimitris. This brings me to the staff of Lindos Mare....
Each and every person who works at this hotel is charming and friendly who can't seem to do enough to ensure you are looked after. From the reception staff, to Bar staff (Makis, Janna, Gabriella) to the restaurant staff (Mikalos, Savvas et al) porters, Spa girls and Room Service girls each and every person is as charming as the next. Our room was cleaned and given fresh towels every day, I would put my vest & shorts for sleeping in under my pillow and would come back to the room to find they had been fanned out or styled into a lovely shape on the bed. My fiance left a couple of t-shirts on the chair one day and they were styled into little star shapes and placed on the bed- it's the little things that make this hotel so personable! The day after we arrived, 11th Aug, was my dads birthday and we all dined in the restaurant where the staff of their own accord had placed a 'Happy Birthday' banner on the wall and after we'd eaten Mikalos and his colleagues sang happy birthday in 7 different languages but added a few wee extra songs in the mix like 'Merry Christmas' just for fun and a cake was brought out with candles. Again, this was so personable and unexpected it made my dads day :)
Our wedding was on 17th Aug - I can put my hand on my heart and say it was the best day of my life. In our room on arrival was a letter from the Thomson wedding coordinator Brian Bird with a date and time to meet him and make final arrangements for the big day. We met with Brian on the 11th Aug who is full of fun and great ideas, reassurance and excitement about weddings he really made us feel at ease and instantly I didn't feel nervous. I knew we were in safe hands. Brian showed me a book of flowers & cakes to choose from and made suggestions as to what would look good, he was honest and open and nothing was a problem. Our meeting probably only lasted an hour, but his input and enthusiasm will be with me forever - our wedding just seemed to happen with nothing for us to worry about; as if by magic! Within the hour we picked mine & bridesmaids flowers (Sunflowers), transport to St Paul's (me, my dad & bridesmaids got the glass bottom boat and I thoroughly recommend it to any brides out there) arranged a hair trial with the lovely Samina, picked a cake (chocolate, of course!) and arranged the glass bottom boat cruise back from St Pauls for all our guests after the wedding. We were also shown how our photo album would look and given a walk through of how the day would go. On the day itself Samina the hair stylist came to our room around 12:30 to do my and the bridesmaids hair. Samina was fabulous and felt like one of our friends; so chatty and full of ideas a really lovely girl who I'd recommend to any brides-2-be. Samina aimed to be done with us by 3pm and true to her word she was - that's professional for you! This gave us 45 mins to get into our gowns and have a glass of champers before Brian came to collect the 3 of us with my dad. In the time we were getting ready, Brian was rounding up the guests with the groom for photos by Ismini from Koufos Images, once he seen them off in the taxis to St Pauls he then collected the bridesmaids and took them to reception, then came for my dad and I where we all had our photos taken. Once we got to St Pauls everything went like clockwork - we were lucky as there was no wedding before or after ours so we had the luxury of time. It is a popular venue and weddings are normally every 45 mins but we felt so relaxed, a tad hot as it's 10 degrees hotter in the bay, but this was to be expected when marrying in Greece in August. Then after the service we all got the glass bottom cruise round the bay back to Lindos Mare for a reception. Efi had asked to see the bridesmaid dresses prior to the wedding and she had matched the colour (Midnight Blue) for the tables and balcony decorations to the dresses perfectly. The staff were brilliant with their service at the meal and were so patient as we done the speeches before the meal. It really was the best day and we couldn't have done it without all of this help.
The Lindos Mare hotel is a haven for all, families, couples, friends - there is such a buzz about the place. The food is amazing, a different selection every day/night and there is entertainment should you wish to have a night at the hotel. I thoroughly recommend the Traditional Greek Night - not to be missed!! The staff are super friendly who go above and beyond their job and is just a genuinely great place for R&R. Lindos town is like a conservation area where you can just feel the history around you. Another must before you leave is visit the Acropolis - steeped in history and folklore you will feel like you've walked right back to 560 BC when it was built! Plus, the panoramic views of Lindos are out of this world.
I could go on and and on but you really need to experience Lindos and the Lindos Mare for yourself - we are already looking into a trip for our 1st Wedding Anniversary in 2012. See you at the bar :)
