Just returned from week's holiday at The Lindos Gardens, booked last minute with Olympic. This was our second time in Rhodes, having previously stayed at Lardos, and particularly wanted to return to stay at Lindos.
We went the last full week of the year, so both the resort and town were winding down to some extent. The accommodation at Lindos Gardens is Greek style, therefore basic but containing all necessities. Although it is self-catering, facilities are limited, 2 hot plates and a kettle, enough sups plates glasses cutlery for 4, a pan and a frying pan, so really only suited to light lunches and breakfasts, we found. We do usually tend to eat out on holiday, so don't tend to find this much of a problem. 1 minor maintenance issue was dealt with promptly and efficiently, the apartment was cleaned most days; the only issue we had really was an 'odd' smell in the bathroom, not traced to anything in particular, but I strongly suspect that, as there is NO ventilation whatever in the bathroom (9A), this was linked to damp and condensation, as everything was clean. There is an extra charge for air-con and safety deposit boxes, again this is common in Greece.
The complex itself was fine, most of the upper blocks and pool bars were closed, the main pool and infinity pool are well kept. I agree there would be a real problem with numbers of sunbeds in the main period of the summer. The bar was nice, Jack really funny, and 'happy hour' a must. The food, particularly breakfast was, in our opinion, very expensive - 'Full English' was 9.80 euros, and continental 7.50, very much more expensive than the town. The nearest supermarket is a 5 minute walk, altohugh the ones in Lindos are cheaper. The best food on the menu was the Greek food, home made moussaka and saganaki, yum!!
The best restaurant in Lindos is Stephany's, 2 courses with drinks coming in around 40-50 euros, depending on what was eaten. The Lindian baby shrimp, breaded and eaten whole, were to die for, and service was fantastically good. Museum bar around the corner has all the live football, and a rooftop garden. Lindos main beach is gorgeous, free umbrellas and sunbeds too. A walk up to the acropolis is a must, and the main reason for staying at Lindos Gardens is it has the best view on the island. It's a steep walk into Lindos and back, but a taxi is only 4 euros. The worst food was at Mythos, a mix of under and overcooked chips with the meat loaded on top - yuk!
We hired a car in Lindos at Rodos cars, far better value than through the rep, we got a bigger car for 10 euros less for 3 days, with all CDW etc. Rhodes is full of historical and resort places to go - Kamiros, one of the 3 ancient Rhodian cities, The castle at Monolithos, and The Old Town of Rhodes all deserve a mention. We also went to Paranissi, one of only 7 places in the world where 2 seas meet.
We would go back to Lindos Gardens if in the area again, although it probably would be too busy for us in the summer in Lindos, with the tiny streets etc. Yammas!
