My husband and I plus two friends stayed at the Atlantica Princess Hotel from 26 May to 2 June and would agree with the other reviews that the staff that make this hotel as they are all so friendly and eager to help. We enjoyed the meals but would agree that there is too much pork. My husband and two friends are meat eaters but I am vegetarian and they became vegetarian over the course of the week as they don’t like pork! The vegetarian choice was really good and I noticed more people at the vegetarian food station than usual so I think most people were not impressed by the choice of meat. Our room was very nice, spacious and clean. We had a sea view but, as pointed out by another reviewer, we could not see the sea unless we stood up due to it being a “concrete cube.” However, I am surprised that the main draw back with this hotel as far as we were concerned has not been mentioned by other reviewers in that the hotel is in the wrong place on the plot of land. Normally when a hotel is situated on the seafront you have the hotel, then the pool and grass areas and then the beach so that when you sit by the pool you have a view of the sea. However, this hotel is sandwiched between the pool and the beach. We like to sit by the pool, especially as the beach was not very good, being a mixture of gravel and shingle but the view from the pool was of the hotel, which was most unattractive (see attached photo). Also a busy road runs alongside the pool and there were always large tour buses pulling up outside the hotel so not very peaceful either. I realise that there is nothing the hotel can do now about this architectural planning error made years ago but it is worth taking into consideration when planning a holiday as it would put us off going back. One more thing to be prepared for (which we weren’t) is that the hotel does not supply pool towels. We have never stayed in a four star hotel that did not provide pool towels (including other Atlantica Hotels) and never take one with us (especially as it takes up so much of the luggage weight allowance on the plane) so was not impressed at having to go to the supermarket the first day to buy a towel. We saw a pile of beach tiles with the Atlantica logo on them in a corridor (the same as the ones that we had been provided with at other Atlantica hotels) so they obviously used to provide pool towels but have decided to cut back. Another cut back was that the rooms were not cleaned on Sundays. We have never known this before, even in two star hotels. The hotel is obviously looking at ways to make cut backs but this is a false economy as it just puts guests off returning. The hotel is great for families but, although Thomson recommend this hotel for couples, if you don’t want to be surrounded by kids then it’s not for you. We went outside of school holidays but there were still loads of kids. So that’s the bad things but there were plenty of good points. We liked the situation of the hotel being within walking distance of the town. We are not really into the usual hotel entertainment so it was nice to be able to have somewhere to walk to in the evenings with all the shops and bars open. The aqua aerobics was also the best we have known of any hotel, the staff being very professional and enthusiastic. Another bonus point was that, apart from the half hour when aqua aerobics, there was no loud music around the pool. I can never understand why some hotels do this when people who want to listen to music can take their own choice on an Ipod. So there were many good points to outweigh the bad points and we cannot emphasise too much how brilliant all the staff were from the maintenance staff (we had a couple of minor problems that were dealt with immediately) to the food and beverage, especially Christina at the pool bar who dealt very quickly and calmly with the constant deluge of customers. We enjoyed our holiday but because of the points mentioned above would not return.
