We booked this hotel based on its location, relatively cheap price and the fact that Expedia had it as a 4 star property. There's nothing wrong with the hotel, but it is not a four star property. However, it's not priced as a four star hotel...we paid $60 a night, breakfast and parking not included.
I'll start by saying the location is great. It is not inside the old quarter, but it is less than a five minute to get there. We found parking about a quarter of a mile away for free. This was a Tuesday night in July, though, which made it easier.
When we arrived, there was no bellman to help with our bags. They allow you to leave the car in front for 5 to 10 minutes to take your own bags upstairs. Not exactly four star service. The front desk clerk (the only person who seemed to be working in the lobby at 4pm) was helpful in mapping out where the nearby free parking areas were located. The lobby has a convention center feel...clean and modern but cold and bland. We asked for some advice on where to eat and the person tried, but was not very knowledgeable.
The room was an average size, clean but had two double beds pushed together. The wifi worked great. The water pressure and air conditioning was strong by Spanish standards. The room was a little run down, the kind of room where the battery to the remote control is held in place by scotch tape. It had a small TV and there were small nicks and scratches on all of the wood finishings and trimming. The low quality of the hardwood floor detracted from the ambiance. The mattresses and pillows were slightly below average for Spain. There was a safe and minibar that only held a few beverages, but no iron or ironing board. The window had a view onto a patio that isn't looked after...patio views are fine, but the hotel should know that I'm going to look out of the window and they should spend a few minutes cleaning it up.
There is a terrace on top with pretty decent views of the old quarter from some of the table. The terrace is mostly covered with that fake, golf driving range grass, which detracts from it significantly. The whole layout for the restaurant on the terrace feels...cheap. I hate to use that word, but that's the best way I can think to describe it. It does a disservice to the view.
Overall, it's a good value. I'm being a little hard on the hotel because of its four star rating on Expedia. I would say it was a solid three star hotel, but my expectations left me a little disappointed. That being said, what should I have expected for $60 a night?
