“Nice Hotel in Golfo Aranci”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The property is relatively small but intimate and elegant. The rooms were very clean, large, and had beautiful balconies with sea view.

The pool area was small, but the garden was very beautiful. Also, the hotel is just a few steps from the beach, which is a great plus. Breakfast selection was good as well.

Something to note is that during my stay the hotel ran out of water (apparently a common occurrence in some parts of Sardinia). They 'solved' the issue by filling the hotel's cistern with water from the swimming pool. Given the high rate they charge for the hotel rooms I was not very pleased with this situation. However, the next they had regular water running again.

While the beach at Golfo Aranci is nice, the town is very kind of new and has not much to offer. In addition, unlike anywhere else in Italy, the food at Golfo Aranci was not that good. Also, there is nothing to do in this town besides the beach. Thus, there are much better options in Sardinia than Golfo Aranci (e.g. Alghero or La Maddalena).

Our group stayed here from 20-27 October and it was all we hoped for. We had two rooms - a suite and a delux double room. Both had great bathrooms and balconies overlooking the sea. The rooms were spotless and carefully cleaned each day. The beds were excellent. Breakfast was a buffet with all the variety of foods you could want. It was late in the season but we were disappointed to find that the hotel restaurant had closed for the season. However the hotel's Owner helpfully suggested local restaurants for us to use.

The Owners were much in evidence even eating breakfast in the dining room. This makes a big difference in my experience. We would certainly stay at the hotel if we return to the area.

We stayed in late October half term The hotel is exceptionally clean and the grounds and pool terrace were beautiful. The reception staff were efficient on the whole (but unable to give information on how to get a film on Sky when stuck in room on wet day with 2 children) and friendly but not overly warm. The room was clean and had fabulous view of bay but marred slightly by building works on public terrace (just our bad luck as obviously temporary). It had no tea making facility in room which would have been nice. Beds were exceptionally comfortable. Bathroom had lovely deep bath and shower. Breakfast food was a little monotonous Fruit was tinned and tired. Eggs and bacon sat there too long sometimes and there wasnt always a lot available (but I have good appetite). Food was a little low quality eg orange juice was actually squash and fruit wasnt very nice Terrace by pool was beautiful but pool could and should be heated if open for guests in October. A steam room was available and was so clean and tasteful. Town wasn't really open with most shops shut for end of season and couldn't always easily find somewhere for lunch or evening meal. Prices were quite expensive in town restaurants. A car is a must. Beware Sixt car hire charged £15 for vacuuming up a little sand and said we were lucky not to be charged as much as £70. Scenery around coast absolutely stunning and beaches very quiet but still warm enough to swim. On the whole a good holiday but only when the sun shone (about half our time). I would go back but not as late in season as late October.

We chose the hotel having read so many favorable reviews and spent a wonderful 2 weeks in Sardinia. Golfo Aranci has enough restaurants, beaches and shops if you want a quiet and relaxing break but to get the most out of the country and the immediate surrounding area a car is really essential. In the first week we explored the Costa Smerelda, La Maddalena islands, beaches all along the North East coast and various drives throughout the Northern area through the beatiful hillside villages with their pastel painted houses.. The scenery ranges from cork woods, lunar landscapes, soaring jagged mountain peaks as well as the stunning vistas all along the coast of azure sea, cliffs and white sand beaches. The second week was mainly spent on various beaches along the north coast of the bay, only 10 minutes from the hotel and at this time of year virtually deserted despite 26 degree daytime temperatures. Cala Banana was our favourite but there are a lot of fabulous beaches within a short drive.
Back to the hotel review !! The staff are outstanding, unfailingly polite and seemingly able to converse in any European language. Our room, as I believe all do, had a westerly aspected balcony overlooking the bay, ideal for soaking up the last rays of sunshine and watching the sunset. With the season coming to an end the hotel was not full and we always managed to get a table on the terrace overlooking the pool but it would not have concerned us if we ate in the dining room as this also afforded views over the gardens and terrace. The quality and variety of the food was excellent. Other guests at the hotel were mainly German or Swiss with a few English couples but I gather that there is a wide diversity of nationalities depending on the national holiday patterns. Not many families/children at this time of the year but I can imagine that the hotel would be ideal for families having a safe enclosed garden and a beach about 100 yards away.
We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I Don't know enough about the other rooms to make a recommendation but ours was a de Luxe twin a...

Our group Just spent 4 wonderful days here and did not want to leave. The rooms, service and meals were all terrific. The reception did everything to ensure our stay was perfect. They even went so far as to track us down when one in our group lost her glasses. They will meet us at the airport to deliver them. This is truly exceptional. We will recommend this hotel to anyone for a memorable experience!

Room Tip: Ours all faced the garden & sea. Beautiful!

As part of a tour of Sardinia, the 5 of us stayed for two nights at Villa Margherita this August. The place is very comfortable, was probably recently refurbished. The oners are Swiss, hence a strong sense of client-oriented service an a very high level of cleanliness. We strongly recommend this hotel, and its restaurant, it is very well located in the centre of Golfo Aranci, close to all the shopping area, etc. It has a nice pool and if you travel by car you may have a parking space in the large underground garage, which is also very useful.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have sea view and a balcony.

A few annoying niggles but on the whole good.
Hotel Villa Margherita is set smack in the middle of a long road in the village of Golfo Aranchi “although it is quite hard to find.”

My first impressions on entering the reception was how sparse the reception area was, it's a large room that needed warming with furniture, rugs flowers etc which would make it more welcoming.

We checked in an hour early with no problems and taken to our deluxe room, by whom I believe to be the owner, there was very little communication or pleasantry from her and we found her to be a little cold and unfriendly.
The room was clean with a view of the ocean (as all rooms have a front facing aspect) the room furniture was old and very basic and not four star standard, I believe some room have been modelled, it had a large balcony, the patio windows was sound proofed and the curtains have black out linings, the beds are really comfortable and we had four great nights sleep.

Down stairs was a pleasant surprise, the pool area, grounds, terrace and dinning room were tastefully furnished and were kept lovely it had a pergola that provided ample shade and was a very relaxing area to sit in.
The bar/lounge area had comfortable seating and a piano so I asked what night the pianist would be playing and the owner said Monday night so we booked a table in the restaurant so that we could enjoy a drink be for dinner and listen to the music. (No pianist played the four nights we stayed at Hotel Villa Margherita) we waited ages to be served at the bar as the staff from the restaurant covers both areas and when they are busy in the restaurant they don't venture into the bar very often, the lady who I believe to be the owner came off the reception desk and served us, but again with the same cold attitude we had when we had checked in.

The evening dinner we had was lovely and cost around 70euro for three courses including wine, but you do have to book, the staff were pleasant helpful and friendly, we ate in the town on the other nights and will recommend Gentedinase at the harbor and Gambero Ghiotto in the town as well as the hotel, all around the same price range, there is also plenty of pizzerias to chose from in the town if you want something more reasonably priced.

Breakfast was good and sitting on the terrace over looking the pool and gardens was pleasant however it is quit stress full when waiting to be seated for breakfast and dinner as other guest walk past you and get the seat on the terrace that you were hoping to sit at, a simple “Please wait to be seated” sign at the entrance of the terrace would alleviate this annoyance for guest.

I have listed a few niggles as the hotel lacked basic essential for a 4 star hotel:
No mirror in the bedroom (only in the bathroom ) which is very inconvenient when getting ready.
No flannel in the bathroom.
No Iron in your room
No clock in the bedroom.
No pen or paper.
No tea and coffee facilities.
A sticky worn out information folder.
Very old bedroom furniture.
Shower water changes unexpectedly from one temperature to another.
Poor wi fi signal this was not available in all parts of the hotel and a poor signal.
Lack of service ie drinks around the pool and bar
“Please wait to be seated” sign is definitely needed at the terrace and dining room entrance.
The hair dryer will cut out once hot so it takes ages to get your hair done.

Good points;
Very comfy Beds.
Good quiet air conditioning.
Lovely pool, gardens and dinning area.
The hotel is clean and very quiet day and night.
Black out curtains and double glazed window.
Very good food and service in the restaurant and at breakfast .
Free car parking.

Location;
There is building work along the pavement outside the hotel however we didn't hear any noise from the work at the hotel.
The beach is approx 300mtres away and you can walk around the cove to others beaches or drive the coast and stop at numerous beaches.
There is a market most mornings and evenings right outside the hotel, however cars must be moved off the street or they will get towed away.
If you have a car it's well worth a visit to Porto Cervo about 40mins away that has amazing Yachts and very expensive designer shops .
San Pantaleo could be visited on the way to Port Cervo it has a market lining the streets on a Thursday and a beautiful church in the village square
Olbia town is about 14klm away and worth an afternoon looking around.

Room Tip: Ask for one that has been remodelled.
