This was our 5th and final Accor hotel of the holiday. It was designed to be our final special treat and we had booked a fully re-furbished room with air conditioning back in January. On arrival we were handed the key with no explanation of what was to come so were surprised to find a room as described on earlier reviews. Back on reception we learned tnat the refurbishment had started on the 4th floor and was still on going - they didn't have the room we had booked and nothing could be done. Deciding we were tired and hungry (and this was perhaps why the room looked so bad) we left for a few hours but on return things looked the same - peeling pain, chintz, scruffy marked walls and this time a musty smell - just not what you expect or want from a 4 star hotel (or why would you pay the premium?). After saying we were leaving as we were really unhappy we were offered a new room for the second night of the stay - not wanting to pack and un pack and being totally brassed off with the hotel (they had our details we should have been contacted and told that our booking could not be honoured - we would have made other plans - did they think we wouldn't notice the room ?) we cut our holiday short and were given a refund for rest of our stay. Such as shame - this could be really nice - but clearly not for some months yet. We reguarly use Accor hotels and do so for their consistency - but not this time - this hotel lets the brand down.

Some of the reviews here are very critical. Yes, the rooms are chintzy, but ours was big, airy, and even though it was baking hot, the lack of air-conditioning was barely noticeable. We opened the window!! Since it's so quiet that's not a problem.
I thought the art collections in the public areas were eclectic, and I spent ages trying to work out whether the interior decorator was on a trip of another sort the day he designed the breakfast room!
But none of that takes away the fact that it's a well-run hotel, quiet, in a good location in a chic resort and it absolutely suited our needs (which were: a quiet convalescent holiday, pleasant surroundings and an indoor pool). The pool was good - clean and big enough for a proper swim by the way!
Only gripe - we reported a non-functioning bedside lamp, and no attempt was made to repair it - we moved the standard lamp to the side of the bed.
And I don't care for those hairdryers that most hotels have these days - a box on the wall of the bathroom that emits a light puff of warm air - pretty useless really!

As a treat for my birthday, My partner booked this expensive but basic room in this Hotel because he only chooses four star hotels to stay in (this was definately not a 4 star). All the previous reviews I totally agree with i.e. dated rooms (plus no air conditioning) etc etc and to add to this the sockets had what seemed a deliberate placing of a metal pin at the top of said socket so one couldnt plug in a normal continental two pin adaptor. There was no way I could use my straighteners ( almost every woman likes to straighten, tong or blow dry their hair). I asked at Reception about this and they shrugged shoulders said "the special adaptors" were not available and offered no further solution, One young lady was in tears because she couldnt dry or style her hair. The metal pin were certainly added to prevent guests usuing their personal appliances, which is rediculous when the room was £135 (breakfast was extra £17 each!!! ). So if you want style your hair ladies avoid this hotel

first impression of the hotel from outside was great, lobby was good too, but once we were shown our room our hearts sank. It was a superior room but flowery curtains, lamp shades and chairs to match from i guess 1980's, it needed decorating and cleaning. The bathroom was immaculate and the view lovely but thats about it. If you like to feel grubby and dont like smiling or having fun this is the hotel for you!! Very expensive, no way would I class this hotel as 4star.

Stayed at the Mercure on a golfing long weekend. The hotel is nice with very efficient and friendly staff. The ground floor, reception and bar areas are very nice and well decorated with some interesting contemporary art. The floors leading to the rooms are dark and the carpets are in desparate need of replacement. The rooms are fine. Breakfast is very good with lots of variety with fresh breads, fruit etc. The main drawback is the price of the bar and the restaurant. We chose not to eat in the main restaurant as there are many better prospects in Le Touquet and nearby Etaples. Be warned about the bar, we paid the equivalent of £3.60 for a small (25cl) beer. As a group we decided not to drink in the bar and went to a local supermarket, bought a multi-pack of beer and a box of wine for about a tenth of the hotel price and drank that instead. We would have drank a lot in the bar had the price been more reasonable. I think they must price it so high to discourage any groups. Golfers beware! There is a Hotel courtesy bus to town. Ask at reception it finishes at about 20:00hrs. The Restaurant Au Pecheurs Etaples has to be the best value and food in the area if you like fish.

  • Liked — Breakfast
  • Disliked — The swimming pool opens too late at about 08:30hrs
