Owner description: Koldinghus was built in the middle of the 13th century, and in the centuries that followed it was one of Denmark's most important royal castles. In 1808 there was a fire that left the castle in ruins – a romantic relic. Today the castle has been restored and houses a museum which is a centre for cultural activities and special exhibitions of international standing.

“A must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

Koldinghus was a ruin for 200 years after it was burned down by accident .Spanish troops lived there a winter during Napoleonic Wars, they froze, lit op the ovens and accidentally set fire to the castle. Now it is rebuilt with respect to originality, and houses a large museum, and various exhibition. From the tower there is a very good view of Kolding City and the Fiord.

“Koldinghus old and new - brilliant exhibition!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

The internal architecture is amazing. One side of the castle was burned down during the Napoleonic period and has been rebuilt with a stunning contemporary interior, the other still original with a wonderful courtyard and cafe. Housing many famous Danish designer silversmiths work. If you are there before 8th June 2014 call in and see the spectacular Hammered exhibition! The view from the tower is well worth the climb.

“A historic building with a modern hint of architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

We have visited the Koldinghus several times, and it’s always nice. Especially to see the view over Kolding from one of the towers or to see how the have build up or reconstructed the building after the big fire. It is nice work from the architects.

Our kids like to try on the old costumes, and it’s normally a great visit for the hole family, when we go to Koldinghus.

“Neat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

If you have an afternoon free to spend in Kolding, this is probably your best bet. Nice exhibits at a reasonable price. The restoration and internal architecture are quite impressive. The gift shop was also very nice, and is a good place to pick up a gift or momento from your trip.
