Radisson SAS Jutlandia hotel, Frederikshavn, Denmark
(Tel: 45 98 424200)
Situated in a beautiful location on the harbor in the city of Frederikshavn in Denmark, it offers fantastic views. It is near city centre, the main shopping area and market. Most places are within walking distance for tourists.
The room comes with free breakfast ( an excellent hot & cold layout), free wi-fi, TV and free tea/coffee service in the rooms.
The hotel offers all facilities & amenities for the tourist or business traveler but no air conditioning. It is neat, clean and very comfortable with good meal offerings at lunch & dinner.

We've arrived there late in the evening and stayed only for one night. The hotel has a real feel of 80's too it! Old elevator, interior and room keys. Not entirely a bad thing at all. The room was spacious, clean, most furniture new and quite comfy beds.
Breakfast buffet (even though not worth the price!) was ok, with a very basic choice of typical danish breakfast foods. The restaurant is on the 6th floor and it have a splendid view of the harbor. A bad thing about it was that there is some old carpeting that smells a little bit like pee (probably also cause it was hot that day) - not a sexy thing, if you want to enjoy your breakfast.
So all in all - nice place to stay for a night. And get a good deal including the breakfast in the price.

We decided to stay in Frederikshavn as a base to explore the area: Skagen, Sæby and Læsø.

This hotel had an interesting package consisting of 2 nights sleep plus a welcome dinner, plus a free ferry ticket to visit Læsø.

The good thing about this hotel is the location: it is about 7 minutes walk to the train station (where you depart to Skagen) and the bus station. And the ferry to Læsø is just on the other side of the street (literally).
Just around the corner you get restaurants and the pedestrian street. That's nice too.

Breakfast was very good: you can serve yourself English breakfast too if you will.
The restaurant at the top of the building has a nice view of the (industrial) harbour. The food was good (the free welcome dinner we've got in the package) but the service is slow. Be patient!

The room is adequate in size, clean, a bit old but nevertheless acceptable for a tourist hotel.

So what was the problem? The heat!

In my room only 1 window could be opened... a bit! As there is no air condition the room, when we came back in the evening from our tour, was hot. I woke up in the middle of the night sweating a lot.
The day after, weather wasn't as hot so my night sleep was much better. I suppose that as most of the year the weather is much cooler in Denmark investing in air condition is not a first priority.

So my conclusion is that if you travel in the summer you should check if other hotels in Frederikshavn have air condition. If you travel in the rest of the year, Jutlandia is a good choice for a tourist hotel

I stayed in the hotel in mid July and it was quite hot outside, but even much hotter inside. No air-conditioning or any efficient ventilation in the room. I had my room with view over the port, which was nice to look at, but at the same time a busy road just outside kept me awake while sleeping with the window open to get some air.
The top floor breakfast restaurant had a beautiful view and you could sit outside on the terrace.
Rooms were very average.
Parking was quite expensive and the garage was very tight and almost completely full and difficult to park in.

Do not come by car to this Hotel. At least not with your own car, as the parking opportunities will give you some grey hair and worries during your stay. You do risk some damage to your car. The Hotel it self has not been maintained for many years and I do not want to think what have been gathered up in the carpets over this period. If you are dead set to visit this place, come by winter time as there is no air conditions in the room. Do not ask for extra bed, as it is a terrible option. At least for the poor guy who will do his best to sleep in it. Do not expect do get extra towels even though you have an extra bed. All in all a dreadful experience. No wonder this was the only available option in town the days we stayed there.

The hotel was within walking distance of the train station and the ferry was right across the street. This was very convenient since we used both modes of transportation. I was only here 2 nights and one full day was spent in Skagen. I didn't get to see much but the shopping district behind the hotel was very relaxing.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the harbor have the best views.

The hotel is an average one. However, although the breakfast was good the same cannot be said for the evening meal. I was part of a cosmos tour group. The evening meal at the Jutlandia was one of five included in the tour price. It was very poor. I have never been asked to pay for tap water!!. We were told that the only water available with the meal was bottled water and tap water would only be available at a price. I think this meant no tap water but you could have bottled water if you paid for it. I did not. The food was poor, cold soup and meat anda frozen desert. I am not sure this is the same menu as for non tour guests but in any event it was very substandard. The view from the harbour was outstanding and it is very convenient for the ferry. It is just a pity the evening meal let it down.

Room Tip: High room overlooking harbour. Take eye mask and ear plugs if travelling in summer
