I spent a delightful week in Sambata de Sus (Romania), near the Brancoveanu Monastery. A few years ago it was difficult to find a decent B&B close, but now there are a lot of offers. Amongst them, Cabana Eden is a hidden gem. Especially to those who like the outdoors and are not able to claim the mountain paths, because of the wonderful garden they have.
This is a family business, so do not expect a big number of rooms or the facilities of a hotel. But the hostess is kind and helpful (when you need to find out where to go, for example, or where to find a good restaurant in the area), the rooms are clean and fresh, and the air you can breathe in the garden all day (and night) is the best medicine one can ask for.
There is a kitchen available, with a fridge, so you can have fun cooking a little, if you go for example to Fagaras (the nearest town) to the open-air market and buy fresh vegetables and fruits, and local cheese, or anything else you want.
The owners make a good selection of the potential guests, based on the rule that no guest should disturb the others (which we believe is the best rule ever!). Thus, they generally do not welcome big groups, although they told us that on occasions they rent the entire place to one group (there are 2 rooms with 3 beds and 4 rooms with 2, and they can provide extra beds if required).
