Description: Larkins' Restaurant has the freshest food in town prepared and served by the friendliest restaurant owners you're ever likely to meet, The Larkin Family! We offer exceptional food and fantastic service in a new venue located just off Duke Street, St Helens in what was once known as The Orange House although some may remember it as The Plaza Night Club. The building has been totally refurbished and we have ground floor access with stairs and a lift to the first floor restaurant and bar area. A special feature is what we refer to as the Tower Room. This can be booked for larger groups (up to 16) and provides a group of diners the opportunity to enjoy their meal in a fantastic section of the restaurant that is raised above and away from the main dining room. From a simple pot of tea or cup of coffee accompanied with a slice of our scrummy cakes, via a full English Breakfast or one of our famous lunch menus, right the way through to our our Early Bird Evening and Fine Dining a la carte Dinner fayre menus, you can be assured that there will always be something at Larkins' that will wet your appetite.

“New venue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Excellent food as always - now justified with fabulous surroundings - Duke St, above chemists - signage not too good but worth the search. New waiting on staff will I am sure gain the confidence already shown by some of the staff. Having visited the North Road restaurant we wondered what an open plan system would be like. Live music now enhances the dining experience and smaller parties of 2/4 are accommodated on one side of the dance floor with larger parties on the other side of the large dining area. Looking forward to many more visits.

“The gem of St. Helens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

I have eaten in larkins quite afew times and love the home cooked food and family atmosphere that larkins projects. Iv always said its the secret gem of St. Helens as you don't come across this kind of place very much, when I found out they had moved to a more central and bigger place I thought I must go and visit to see if it still has the charm of the old place and I wasn't let down one bit, we was greatest by a young man who showed us to our table in the background there was an organ player who set a great tone to the atmosphere, our food was fantastic and Service was second to none, after talking to the waiter I found out the organ player was a family friend who has raised thousands for local charity's over the years I thought that really deserved a pat on the back. Overall if anyone visits larkins there in for a great night, I can't wait to return!

“Perfect of example of "if it aint broke dont try and fix it"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

For those of you who don't know Larkins in St Helens is an English Restaurant, formerly based on North Road in a grand Victorian house, where the rooms were divided into separate areas where you would have your meal.

The Menu is 70's at best, but you were guaranteed a well cooked English Sunday roast with plenty of food, I don't know anyone who has left the place feeling hungry. With Great Service.

It was even acceptable to take your own wines as they had no license.

On Sunday we booked a table for 17 to celebrate my Grandfathers 90th Birthday as he is very traditional in what he eats and likes. We called to see if it was still the case regarding the wine, to which we were informed that we had no moved to a new premises and that we had a bar so you cannot bring your own wine.

When we got to the new restaurant it were greeted and had our coats taken off us and led upstairs to the former Cinema ( nightclub ) room with a mixture of tables of varying sizes placed around a dance floor.

Quickly counting you could see that there was no table for 17 in the venue, I asked a waitress where our table was, and she said theres 15 of you on that one and two on that one. We told her we booked for 17 and can we have some tables moved to accommodate. After a bit of fuzz she agreed to move the tables together one square one round.

She then moved the seats to fit around the new layout which didn't work. Which ultimately meant that people were sat so far apart that you couldn't hold conversion with the people who you were out to lunch with...not very good for a family lunch!

Add to this the waitress although very pleasant had a serious problem with Body Odour, seriously it was disgusting and very off putting of our meals.

An added problem was the organ player who insisted on playing loud over the top music from his latest play by numbers song book. with the two chefs sat behind him watching the customers eating. I now know where Peter Kay got his inspiration from for Phoenix nights.

The restaurant is very modern in fit out, but in moving they have destroyed or should I say lost everything that was brilliant about the old Larkins. At the old venue you knew what to expect, honest English food with no heirs or graces.

Now ? its just another restaurant owner who has watched too many Gordon Ramsey programmes seriously trying to be too cool without the skill to pull it off.

We will never go back.
