“Convenient but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Stayed here on a business trip and service was OK but hotel felt a bit tired and lacked atmosphere. Lobby looks a bit scruffy and in need of a refurb, room was clean and comfortable but the bar and restaurant were dead and the chairs felt like I was the 10,000th person to sit on it since it was last cleaned (sticky arms and dirty looking).
Overall for the price it was OK for a night to sleep in but nothing more.

Booked this for a one night stay after the races and was not disappointed! £55 for one night between two of us - the rooms were lovely, immaculately presented and had obviously been upgraded recently. Facilities within the room were also excellent.
Free parking on site which was a bonus and the hotel staff were more than helpful in organising taxis etc to the races.
Another good point is that drinks in the hotel were not too expensive so when we returned later in the evening - staying in the bar wasn't an issue (£11 for two double vodka's!!)
Only downside is that breakfast wasn't the best I've ever had - but not the worst either. This could be because we were the one of the last down on the Sunday morning so maybe going for breakfast earlier would have ensured I got a better quality of hot food! So an element of personal responsibility too in my comment about brekkie!!
Overall, if you need to stay in St Helen's I would highly recommend this hotel, just don't leave it till the last 10 minutes of service to go for breakfast

Lovely hotel lobby with friendly reception staff. Did not use any of the facilities as not in the hotel for long enough. For 44 pound's and free parking was excellent value for money. Just a shame that the air con difficult to understand so the room was rather warm especially overnight. I like to sleep with the window open which we were unable to do as we couldn't seem to open it. I suppose we could have asked how to work the air con but by the time we realised that it wasn't straight forward it was really late so we just left it. Had the breakfast which was good, just what we needed for our long day ahead of us. Noted that they cooked your eggs to order which I didn't take advantage of but thought that was a Nice personal touch.

Stayed here the night of our wedding. Room was a nice size with a big bed. Was decorated nice but I felt something was missing. Had breakfast here and wish I would have gone to weatherspoons. Service was not great and it was not explained to us that you need to order eggs had alot nicer breakfasts in other hotels that cost less.

Pool was nice but could do with a touch up. Small things would make a difference like havinng a band on the locker keys, a sign to explain the jacuzi goes on and off every 5 or so mins.

I would not stay here again out of choice but I would consider the use of the hotel again for maybe birthday parties.

The hotel was well situated in the town centre close to the local restraunts and cinema, which was handy for the evening.
The hotel facilities were good and the staff were excellent and very helpful the room was clean and comfortable if a little dated.

Stayed here for the second time this year. Both times excellent service, rooms are good size and there was a big bed. We asked for more milk coffee biscuits and were given plenty without a problem. The room was very warm and we were having trouble sorting the air con, but a member of staff came and explained it to us.

Breakfast was second to none, one of the best we've had.

Highly recommended.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We stayed in one of the 'club' rooms - its not clear if they had recently been refurbished but there were better than I expected! It was clean and comfy with a nice big bed. Elements of the room were a little worn - some chipped paint and a few scuff marks but nothing that spoilt the stay.

There was a wedding on-going late into the night - but we heard no noise from the 'Pyramid' venue which is on the ground floor. I was woken briefly by some guests heading back to their rooms who were a little noisy - but they were gone within 5 minutes.

Breakfast was included in the price of the room as we had a special deal - and it was ok. Service was a bit slow - but there was a good selection of hot and cold food. The room it was served in though again was a little worn.

All in all - not bad at all for a nights stay - and its in a great location - very close to the centre of St.Helens.
