“Overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Stayed at this travelodge for one night to break our journey south. On arrival there was no one in reception, however after ringing the call bell a very polite and helpful female member of staff arrived to check us in.
Our room was quite spacious by travelodge standards, it was clean and had a newish flat screen tv.
The bathroom looked like it had been recently upgraded, it had a large walk in shower but no bath, which did not bother us.
With a Toby Inn right next door it provided an excellent stop over on our journey and at £21 for the room excellent value.
Its proximity to both M5 and M42 is a great asset.

I wasn't expecting very much at all for a £22 per night stay. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent Sammy LCD TV and a clean, well presented room. No frills but bargain basement price.

The Toby Carvery adjoined to it ranks relatively high on Trip Advisor and is a descent place to get a couple of pints and your dinner. A roast dinner for £5.99 and a few ales and you don't even have to go outside to get back to your room. All in all, a pretty cheap and cheerful place.

The one negative is the absolute rip-off internet. Not only is it free in the Toby Carvery just a few metres away its also faster, but you cant get it from the room. Considering I'm paying £20 for internet access, i'd expect it to be about as fast as it gets, but it's so slow that it failed to register the first time when i ran an internet speed test. What reading it did manage, topped out at 1.23Mbs download and 0.21 upload. Outrageous!

As travelodges go, you generally know what you are going to get. Then you get one that used to be a pub chain hotel. This is great as it breaks from the norm of mundane lodges. Yes it's cheap, yes it's basic, but it was nicely furnished with albeit antiquated inherited wooded furniture. I'd rather see wooden furniture to Formica laminated chipboard any day!
The bedroom door had old fashioned black forge handles on. Like I say, quirky, but I liked it.
The bed was clean, and comfy. It did have a bit of a slope to it, but after a long day travelling and an international flight I needed to put my feet up! lol
The bathroom was clean and the shower powerful. I did have a snag getting the right temperature though. It went very hot all of a sudden without touching the controls.
We slept ok, but you do hear traffic outside. We had an early start so I don't know what it looks like in day light.

Spent 2 nights once again at the Marlbrook. Great hotel, lovely staff. Our room was spacious, very clean with extra pillows (not always so in other Lodges.) We paid £19 for each night, which is great value for money. This lodge is very central for Redditch and allowed us to visit family at our leisure. We will stay again very soon.

Well Done !!!

Room Tip: No Lift on site so ask for ground floor room if you have mobility issues.

Stayed at this travelodge twice before and staying there again next week. I can not believe that people can complain about a hotel when they have paid as little as £14 for a room that sleeps 3 people. I have a motor home and most of the times when I go away on campsites I pay £ 20 for a piece of grass. Have you ever checked how much sheets and towells cost to be laundered? .
They are basic and you do not get all the frills of a premier Inn but try getting a premier inn for £14.
If you want cheap, stay at a travelodge but if you want better pay more .
I would never pay there full price but when they are on a deal they are excellent value
So all you moaning snobs, open your wallets and pay a decent price if you want better.
By the way I am not connected to travelodge in any way.

Okay we paid £14 for a room on one of their sell them cheap deals, but we did expect a standard. There didn't seem to be any. When we arrived we were greated with a press this call button if no one here, which we did and then waited for Mrs Overall to arrive with her bucket. The room was next to the stairs so we had the door to said stairs banging each time anyone went through it. The room itself was very poor, it had a big space in it that looked like half the room had been taken out. The bed was very uncomfortable and very very basic. We only had one hand towel and one large towel for the two of us and I had to clean the toilet before we used it. Do not stay here. We kept telling ourselves its just somewhere to break our journey up and we had only paid £14, this was the mantra that we used to try and get us off to sleep that evening.

Room Tip: Try Premier Inn

As other reviewers have said this is an older Travelodge but it was fine. Less that 5 mins from Junction 4 of the M5 so location just right and it only cost £23.50 for the room. Quiet location, our room overlooked the garden. Room was a decent size and the bathroom was clean and recently decorated. The only negative point were the pillows; they only supplied 2 and they were extremely thin. We asked at reception for extra pillows but the receptionist seemed non-plussed by this request and didn't seem to know what to do. She did wonder about getting some from a vacant room but decided she couldn't as she said they were getting a lot of last minute bookings and didn't know if any room would be empty. Ate at the attached Toby Inn which which was good value at £5.99 for a carver and also had breakfast for £3.99 (plus £1.99 for tea or coffee). Both meals perfectly adequate with a good selection.
