“Well worth travelling from Cambridge for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We spent a long weekend exploring Worcestershire and Shropshire in October - Our decision to stay in this part of the world was partly influenced by the prospect of a meal at On The Rocks, and boy was the decision justified!

Keen to make the most of the experience of cooking our meal on the rocks, we opted for a sharing platter of tuna, steak and scallops, with an extra portion of king prawns. We certainly chose wisely, the tuna was sublime, the scallops meaty and flavoursome, the steak full of flavour, and the prawns were lovely and big. A side order of hand cut chunky chips went very well, and the accompanying condiments were excellent too.

We made short work of a very drinkable bottle of Pinot Grigio, and I could not resist the sticky toffee pudding, while my husband demolished with gusto a piece of white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.

We enjoyed every minute of our meal at On The Rocks and will definitely return again one day :)

P.S. Sorry it has taken me four months to post this review Caroline ;) Better late than never!

“how a restaurant should be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I choosethis venue based on the review on trip advisor. I wasnt disappointed. We were a group of 5, 3 adults 2 children. The children were treated like adults by the staff and not looked down upon. The food was better than the reviews give credit. the hospitality perfect. I would recommend a few landlords take a trip to on the rocks to see how things should be run.
The concept of cooking on rocks was explained to us before starting, and the experience was enjoyed by all.
The only downfall is that soon people will find this gem and getting a table will be alot harder than what it is now.
Well done to all concerned at on the rocks. Because your restaurant certainly rocks!

“A great experience! Well worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

After months of saying we'd go, we eventually booked a table and went with some friends and weren't disappointed.

The overall experience was great and the welcome was really warm.

The menu was limited (as some reviews said), however it was explained well and think it works just the way it is. After all.... It's a steak restaurant and that's what they served (with Tuna steaks too).

It was slightly awkward at points as there were two different waitresses serving us both trying to make generic conversation while we were obviously talking with our guests. You couldn't fault the service so sounds a bit harsh but it just felt a lot more natural with the couple that owned it so maybe they should give them some pointers to be a bit less "wooden".

Cooking the steak on the rocks was really fun and kept it at a perfect temperature. The home cooked chips were a welcome change from the bog standard manufactured chips and the portions were just right and didn't overwhelm.

Overall well worth a visit. It's great to finally have somewhere good to eat in the town centre.

“Birthday treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Visited for the first time on 27th December as a birthday surprise from my wife.
a warm welcome greeted us upon arrival from the staff, & we were quickly shown to our table.
We were given a quick run through the concept of the self cooking on the lava stones, something I've never heard of before but it is such a novel aspect of the restaurant that it really is a great talking point.
waitress run through the menu highlighting the specials of the day & a few of the more popular dishes before taking our order for drinks. Wine list, is good with a selection of popular reds & whites from around the world. I can certainly recommend the Shiraz !

Service was swift & unobtrusive, our starters arriving shortly after ordering & was a generous size & very fresh.
The mains (which we both ordered rump steak) comes on the lava stones & you cook it yourself so you can have it a rare or as well done as you like.
It's a great idea & the smell of the meat cooking had me drooling.

The star of the evening however was the cheesecake. without doubt the best tasting desert I've ever had.
I could quite happily go back & order the cheesecake for all three courses!

There was a party of 15 or so in at the same time as us, & although a little noisy it all added to the atmosphere of the evening.
The staff did offer to move us to somewhere a little quieter, but we were fine with the merriment.

I am certainly planning on going back to sample some more of the menu & would recommend anyone to do the same.

Firstly thank you for the review and I have to agree about the Shiraz! Our Cheesecake is infamous and a firm favourite with our customers (I make so many now I think I could make one blindfolded!!).
We look forward to welcoming you both back soon and by the way one customer has our Pate as a starter and a Dessert so three courses of Cheesecake is not so off the wall!!! Caroline

“On the Rocks!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Stumbled upon this by chance after looking for a restaurant in the Bromsgrove area, trusted trip advisor reviews and the restaurants own website. Were not disappointed, first class service, first class food...will be returning soon! Cannot recommend highly enough, excellent quality food and the three course set menu was a bargain! Fillet steak and scallops on the rocks were five star!!! Would recommend brownie for pudding! Fantastic evening, perfect place for couples!
