“Great wedding venue. Very impressed with staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Stayed for one night for a wedding reception. Room was comfortable and very reasonably priced. Staff were very good throughout the day and the following morning at breakfast. Made a great day all the more enjoyable.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

We've stayed in Holiday Inns many times in many places and generally had good service. However, their Bromsgrove hotel wasn't good:

1. The room was clean, bright and functional. However, the electric plugs were almost inaccessible - round the back of the TV and down behind the desk, making it hard to plug in the phones, laptops etc that most people travel with these days. We also noted that the weather and news information on the in-house information system on the TV was way out of date. (data from March! This is June!)

2. The food that was delivered was not what was described on the menu, and some was of decidedly poor quality. Examples: The menu said Latte coffee was served with homemade biscuits - no biscuits. At lunchtime, my wife and I selected a baguette from the menu. It was very nice, but the bread definitely would not qualify as a baguette. At breakfast, the croissants were cold and undercooked. The texture of the pastry resembled a pencil eraser and was about as edible! This was brought to the attention of the staff who said it couldn't be fixed because they has sold out (with 2 hours of breakfast service still to run.) In the evening, my wife selected the spagetti bolognese from the bar menu and I chose chicken caesar salad. The bolognese had no tomato sauce and was tasteless. We raised this with the staff and were told that this was an authentic "rustic" recipe. Maybe, but not what 99% of people expect when they order this common staple dish! My salad was advertised as coming with anchovies. Not one in sight.

To be fair, the hotel did try to correct matters by removing the cost of our evening meal from the bill. However, we would rather pay and enjoy the food.

I'm sorry to say that we won't be rushing back to this hotel!

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay at the hotel. I was sorry to read of the issues that you faced, mainly food related. I will certainly pass your comments onto the Heads of Departments concerned and I will ensure that they use these via training in order to improve the experience of our guests.

I am sorry once again, and I do hope that this does not deter you from using the brand in the future

This is a wonderfully located hotel having all round views of the rolling countryside. We stayed for two nights and were pleased by all facilities. Our room was of good size, clean and well maintained.
The restaurant and bar were pleasant spaces, dinner was excellent (and not overpriced),breakfast was one of the best we have had in a long while with much local produce in evidence. (Well done HI).

There is free Wi-Fi in the public areas and it is a good speed connection.

All staff we encountered were delightful and were only too pleased to be of service.

The swimming pool was an added plus and a delight to use.

Stayed for half term trip with kids, can't complain at value for b+b on advanced rate. Good swim in pool, and comfortable room. Attentive service from all we encountered. No noise from nearby motorway.

I recently stayed for 3 nights, if it was just the one then the review could be a little better but as the restaurant is so poor then I think I am being generous with the above. On the 3 evenings I had food I can only describe the standard as awful, I honestly do not think that the chef has had any training whatsoever as it is worse than a basic standard chain pub but triple the price. Also the service is not the best.

To clarify the situation my company paid for all of the costs, if I had been paying then I would not have been happy at all, the type of hotel that Allan Partridge would stay in, ahaaaahh.

Tip, go out for food

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay. I was sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction in the restaurant. I will pass your comments onto relevant parties. Fortunately this is not indicative of usual guest experience here at the hotel, as the other comments on Tripadvisor will testify. We do hope that your experience does not deter you from using the hotel or the brand in the future.

Thank you once again

I recently stopped at the Holiday Inn Bromsgrove for one night on business.

I stayed in a standard double room. Room and bathroom were clean, not very large, but perfectly adequate for a one night stay. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was noisy with traffic noise from the motorway, the window in the bathroom is not double glazed, the window in the bedroom is. If you closed the bathroom door this removed the traffic noise.

I had the room next to the fire door which was used by all the guests on my floor, this was left to slam on every use and woke me several times during the night.

I ate in the restaurant (bar) in the evening and the food was very nice. Sticky Toffee Pudding was excellent!

Breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn buffet breakfast. All the food was piping hot, along with the plates, and was excellent.

I would stay at this hotel again, but would ask to change rooms if I am next to the fire door again!

Thanks for your great comments following your stay. I am pleased that everything was to your satisfaction, including the quality of food. I was also comforted to hear that you managed to block out the motorway noise by closing the bathroom door. This is something that is rarely commented upon at the hotel.

We hope to see you back soon!!

We stayed here one night and were in 230 on the ground floor (through the door near the leisure club) Our room was very nice and there was a cot made up for our baby and the sofa bed made for our daughter.

We did get a good deal on the room so perhaps wouldn't choose to stay again unless the price was right.

Breakfast was nice and as you would expect - a selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, toast (make it yourself on the conveyor toaster!) and hot 'english breakfast' items.
