“Surpassed expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Having read some of the other reviews about Woodlands Park I have to say I booked with a little bit of trepidation. But any concerns were completely dispelled. The room was of a high quality - not especially large but had everything you could want, modern bathroom and very comfy bed and pillows (this is a bugbear of mine to the extent I normally travel with my own!). We had a night away without children - thank you granny and grandpa, - but brought our young children to join us for a lovely Sunday lunch. Again, this was not a problem at all and the children were welcomed without giving ovr the whole restaurant to families.

The service was excellent in restaurant and reception - nothing seemed to be a problem for the staff and they were very friendly and attentive. The food was superb and well deserving of its rosettes. Despite the fact their were weddings whilst we were there, either the wedding parties were very quiet or the hotel layout meant it was not intrusive like it can be in other hotels. The setting was beautiful and very handy. All in all an excellent stay and we will be back! Thank you.

I recently visited this hotel for a wedding, very impressive reception area. Reception room quite small but leads onto glorious grounds, if weather permits guests can sit on patio area and view the gardens. Rooms comfortable and clean, and a good size bathroom with bath and shower. Food good, good service from staff. There is a brasserie which I cannot comment on as we did not eat there. I would certainly recommend Woodlands Park Hotel.

Scenic grounds, a nice old building & friendly staff, but we came away feeling Hotel guests got in the way - Weddings is what Woodlands Park is there for. The "Executive" room was v small but adequate, but who thought it a clever idea to have the plughole with chain plug exactly in the middle of the bath - ouch !. Dinner was poor ,Tapas = rubber squid in a commercial sweet chilli sauce & ice cold 'marinated' anchovies, anchovy fillets still stuck together as they had been in the jar in the same acidic vinegar, Main course Mackerel stuffed with Harissa & something else on Rocket mash quite nicely done but that was it one small Mackerel filleted & some mash, very poor value; good thing I wasn't very hungry. Thank goodness we kept off the £40 for 2 courses "fine dining" menu.Disco thundering under room 27 until midnight. Breakfast Sunday morning was a shambles, Hotel guests moved into a small function room to make room for a Wedding Breakfast, & another large party that may have been a second Wedding as 2 marriages on this Sunday, again nice staff but the combination of lack of knowledge of English & I would estimate around 80-100 to serve all at the same time, I will say no more, tho' I did look round for John Cleese.
4* Star prices for 2* quality, we will not be returning.

Room Tip: Probably 27 being furthest from reception, will hear less wedding noise than most as long as no disc...

My husband booked this hotel as we were going to see family near by
The drive in and grounds are lovely but the interior of the hotel was disappointing
Our room was on the verge of being shabby although the bed was big and comfortable .
The corridor was a bit like a boarding school with plain cream badly painted walls and basic carpet
It has all the checklist of a 4* hotel - but not the cleanliness or finish I would expect for £199 for one night!!!
We had afternoon tea when we arrived which was nice but terribly slow service
The same at breakfast - nice food but very poor service
With a bit of TLC it could be a nice place but very poor value for money

This was our first stay at Woodlands Park, one of the Hand-picked Group of luxury hotels, with which we are familiar,so we came expecting high standards and were not disappointed. The gardens are immaculate ,the 19th century building handsome, with a very interesting interior. We had a very comfortable first -floor room ,with spacious bathroom, reached by a lift which makes access easy for people with mobility problems. The food was good: on the first night,an interesting 5 -course American gourmet evening, with selected wines and an introduction to each of them; on the second night a very enjoyable meal from the normal menu, with complimentary wine. On the gourmet evening we dined with a group of other guests, which made for an interesting evening. We also ate a good lunch in the Bensons Brasserie and two excellent breakfasts. No wonder we had no room to fit in a complimentary cream tea! (I did regret this!) We did not spend all our time eating, though it sounds like it. We toured the local countryside and river towns but there are quite a few other excursions to embark on. However, what particularly impressed us was the warmth and professionalism of the service:a deputy manager well in evidence on both days, welcoming and ensuring guests were well looked after ;really excellent restaurant service at all times.A young man called Simon was noticeably kind and hard-working,even on a long stretch of weekend duty. Noticing I had left the table,he ensured that my main course was kept hot and, when my partner had to leave the table towards the end of the lengthy American meal, because of back problems,Simon personally took the dessert to our room for him. This was a really nice weekend stay and I have no hesitation in recommending Woodlands Park for an indulgent break.

On arrival the hotel and grounds looked amazing, very tidy and landscaped. Checking in was easy and quick and the staff were very polite and engaging. The standard type room was a nice size, beautifully comfortable bed and great shower and bath. Clean, light and airy. Good selection of drinks and information in the room. Plenty of space for your belongings and great little desk to sit at do your hair/makeup or have a laptop open etc.
The hotel environment was always clean and inviting, staff always had a smile for you and happy to help. Never felt a nuisance.
Breakfast was lovely. Plenty to choose from and fill up on if desired.
I don't have anything bad to say about this hotel. I didn't eat dinner here because we went out to the local area and London but I can't imagine that I would've found fault with the restaurant anyway, even though it was a little out of my usual price range!!

Room Tip: Room 14 was great (just a standard room) with a view out into the garden. Please note that there are...

We recently attended a Charity Lunch at this Hotel. It is a perfect venue with easy parking. and lovely grounds. As you enter the building you feel you are in Downton Abbey - dark and Victorian - but as you are shown the way to the Reception Room for the lunch there is quite a different atmosphere. The room was light and airy with welcoming staff inviting guests to enjoy a pre-lunch drink. We then moved into the dining room where we were served a three course lunch. The tables were attractively laid and the whole room looked very inviting. The lunch was fine and the service very good. We chose a Chilean Red Wine which was a little on the high price.
