“Outdated Hotel for IHG chain”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

First impression from outside look good, lots of parking spaces. When you enter the hotel different perspective, The hotel is clean but spoilt by a dull reception area, worn carpet, threadbare on all the edges on the stairs. Rooms are of a fair size but again outdated with very old televisions poor quality picture. Bathroom tiles are of a good standard but let down by plastic sink unit, bath had a chip in it, shower was refreshing. Bed was uncomfortable and pillows seem to have lost all their plumpness. tried all four but no difference, On top of getting not much sleep the noise from the A43 which runs past the hotel from about 0400 was unbearable, gave in trying to get back to sleep. Did not use the leisure centre so can not comment on that. Breakfast was nothing special, standard for this type of hotel. All the staff was attentive which made up for the lack of atmosphere within the hotel. This hotel needs updating sooner than later, The reception you enquired about our stay on check out, which we relayed the same responses as above told us there were new owners who were drawing up modernization plans. If stooping in this area in the near future will consider stopping at the Express By Holiday Inn, which is only about 5 miles away and is a modern hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the main road the A43 and on the opposite end...

This hotel is ideal if you are doing a day at the nearby race track. Agreed the place looks like it has not had an overhaul since the 90's, but the friendly staff more than make up for the dated decor. Smiling happy receptionist and very attentive restaurant waiting staff offering first class service. Evening meal not great (my stepson could have done with a chainsaw to cut through his leathery steak but breakfast was very palatable and offered a varied selection as per with most other hotels in the same chain. keep your sense of humour about you and understand that you get what you pay for. 3/5 for the hotel and 5/5 for the brilliant staff. Deb.

A decent enough price at £60 a night. The room was very clean but very tired looking. The decor of the hotel was dated but was tidy and the staff were efficient and pleasant. My dinner was basic but tasty but breakfast was abysmal. Entirely uncooked sausages were a strange white colour and the eggs were like powder. Add the fact that the dining room was like a furnace and the staff were totally inept to change the thermostat. 4 out of 10.

We have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel for our friend's wedding being held at a nearby village.
On arrival the hotel looked nice enough from the outside with a very large car park and plenty of spaces close to the reception entrance.
We checked in and went straight to our room which immediate impression was it looked very tired and dated, although it was very clean. However the third bed for our 11 year old son was totally unsuitable. It was basically a small flimsey campbed that he could not possible have slept properly on. At most I would say a small preschool child could have managed on it. We have stayed in plenty of family rooms as a family of three and have never had any issues in the past with the third bed so I was very surprised to say the least that the hotel regarded this as adequate as this was not mentioned during booking. I immediately rang reception and their explanation was that they do not have family rooms as such but instead a junior suite or interconnecting rooms our recommended, but again this wasn't mentioned at the time of booking. I must say that the staff were very friendly and helpful and the situation was resolved fairly swiftly and we were moved to interconnecting rooms for an additonal charge of £25 (instead of £65) which I did confirm was the total cost for both nights of our stay.
The interconnecting rooms had a slightly more modern airy feel and also were on the quieter side of the hotel away from the busy A43 so I was much happier.
Breakfast was the usual hot buffet style fare and was included in our room price and was nice enough with plenty of choice and regularly topped up juices etc.
I noticed that all the staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. On checkout they had included an additonal charge of £25 per night instead of £25 in total but this was immediately removed with no quibbling once I pointed out that I had definately confirmed it was only £25 in total.
Overall and as the other reviewers have said the hotel does look tired and in need of renovating if they want to keep guests returning and they really must address their family room policy.

Room Tip: Request a room at the back of the hotel on the opposite side to the busy A43.

We were booked 3 nights at this hotel, but stayed only 2. The best thing about this hotel are the friendly staff. But the food in the restaurant was not great and was expensive, as were the drinks There are no other restaurants within walking distance, and as the immediate area is so grim, you would not want to walk. To give the staff their due, we sent back one meal and this was deducted from the bill. We were offered free desserts, but did not take up this offer as we do not take the mick.

Breakfast was good.

The room was spacious and comfortable, but tired and the TV was old, chunky, only about 6 channels, and a rubbish picture. The carpet was very dirty. The carpet in the public areas was old and threadbare in places.

Would not return.

Dear reviewer, many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. I was please to read you found the staff friendly and helpful.
We’re all very excited, at the hotel, as our new TV’s are in the process of being installed; these have more channels and an excellent picture. Plans are in place to invest heavily in the property and over the next few months things will be happening
I hope that you do choose us again in the future and see the above investment.
