This hotel has only recently been fully re-developed - to an exceptionally luxurious standard. Nothing has been missed. Absolutely nothing. I have stayed here in the past and not a single thing from those days remains. This is my third or so visit since the re-development. I highly recommend this place, and I will be back!
The rooms are simply beautiful, with lovely big TVs with loads of (free to view) channels, excellent picture and sound quality. The new double-glazed windows are reassuringly expensive, and well fitted, and the beds are comfortable, and again, ooze luxury.
The bathroom was small in the room I stayed in - but perfectly alright for one. Other rooms have bigger bathrooms - ask reception. Again, the hotel has chucked money at the place with very nice fittings, a great shower and nice yummy soft towels.
The restaurant was put in a year or so ago, and I find the food well-priced and delicious. (There is lots of competition in the village for your evening meal, and the Torrance has responded well, and with keen process). Service was good, with friendly staff. On this trip the restaurant was very busy, and I noticed new staff - presumably to cope with the demand.
The breakfast is cooked to order, and again, I found it to be to a high standard.
The staff here have increased considerably (I think), but the gentleman who serves breakfast in the mornings deserves particular praise for being great company, and always very friendly and helpful.
I got the "£150 card charge" when I arrived, too - and this seems new. However, it isn't actually a charge - they simply ask the bank to hold the money just in case it is needed (bank authorisation). Most hotels do something similar nowadays. Don't worry - if you don't spend, it is in not taken from your account.
So, if you want true luxury and nice friendly staff, I would recommend a look here. Make sure that you call for room rates.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Welcoming traditional village hotel in walking distance to Scotland's largest undercover shopping and leisure centre in East Kilbride. East Kilbride has many local attractions including Village Theatre, Golf Courses, Ten Pin Bowling, Ice Skating, Odeon Cinema and is only 7 miles from Glasgow city centre. Built in 1773 by General Stuart of Torrance as a cotton-spinning mill and workers' houses the building in Torrance Square provided a focus for town life. In its many incarnations the popular Torrance Hotel has also housed a school, a shop and a Coaching Inn, but it has always been at the heart of East Kilbride. The building has retained all its original character and charm. We have 20 comfortable bedrooms including the newly refurbished Honeymoon Suite for 2007. Enjoy a meal in our warm and friendly restaurant or lounge bar which caters for a wide range of food from traditional meals to bar snacks. We are a 5 minute walk from the local train station which will take you straight into Glasgow's Central Station which runs every half hour. If more information is required then do not hesitate to ask our friendly receptionist staff. We would like to advise guests that there will be no bar or restaurant facilities for the next 4 months.
