“Strange check in”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

This was our first visit to the Torrance Hotel , On first impressions it was very nice Stone exterior and grounds were pretty Reception check in was something we have never encountered before Hotel take £150 from Bank/ Credit card against any purchases you MAY make in Hotel Like Dinner, Drinks , Mini bar ? Nothing like presuming everyone will want to eat and drink in Hotel !! There are Restaurants and Bars nearby so to expect people to pay up front is out of order i have never came across this before normally settle bill on departure The Hotel has recently been refurbished Rooms and Bathroom were finished recently to a good standard found Bedroom was bit on small side .Needed to use the ironing board find Housed inside wardrobe Hence should be a socket around this area but no had to use socket at small Table / Dresser so had a bit of a struggle to get it across the room past bed space. The Tea / Coffee making facilities are also on small table / dresser you would not be able to use the table for laptop if you were staying on Business Not much room for drying hair etc Ate in Restaurant sent dessert back should have been cold the waitress agreed it was warm and offered to replace it or choose another
... Breakfast was awful decided on cooked breakfast Potatoe Scones were inedible could not cut through them the square sausage was like rubber had it replaced with toast and poached eggs shame the conservatory where Breakfast was served was nice .

Room Tip: Stayed in room facing front of hotel was slight bit traffic noise from road

Dear Trip Advisor Guest,

Firstly many thanks for taking the time to write your review.

The pre auth you were asked to leave is not taken out of your account this is just a deposit that we ask for from all guests.

Regarding breakfast here at the Torrance I can assure you that this is an isolated incident and as you can see from previous reviews the quality of food including breakfast is of a high standard.

Many thanks for your positive comments regarding the quality of the refurbishment and I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Garrie Ross

I stayed at this hotel on 11 August after it was highly recommended by friends.
We stayed in the Stuart Spa Suite and safe to say it was amazing!
There was a swirl staircase going up to the bathroom which was very spacious and included a jacuzzi and sauna.
The room was spotlessly clean and spacious.
We were also able to play music via phone which played through the ceiling and also had a smart TV at the bottom of our bed and waterproof TV at the jacuzzi.
The room was very modern and so was the full hotel.
The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome.
I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone!
There is nothing that I could fault about this hotel.
I will definitely be back again!
Thank you.

We had previuosly visited the Torrance to attend a wedding and deciced to return for an overnight stay as bedrooms had recently been refurbished.

Bedroom and bathroom were nicely refurbished. Breakfast was really good, did not have dinner in the hotel as we had already booked a local restaurant. The Hotel is situated close to The Village which has a wide variety of dining options all of which seemed to be really busy.

The only disappointment was the hotel's preautherisation policy. I dont have a problem with having a swipe of my card taken, but to preautherise a fee of £150 plus the room rate was excessive especially as we had advised that we would not be dining in the hotel or charging to our room. When the receptionist told us about the preauth policy we asked her just to take the payment for the room there and then but was told this was not possible and that she had to do a preauth and then complete the payment on check out. It is the first time that a hotel has ever refused the offer of payment on arrival when I have checked into a property.

We did not let this incident spoil our enjoyment of the visit and would certainly recommend the hotel for a short break.

We stayed on a Saturday night. The room was lovely with a modern bathroom. Staff were very friendly the next morning even though we checked out half an hour late! Great value for money. Would definitely stay again.

We decided to drop in on the way home after a long day a work for a bite of dinner. This was the first time we have returned since the major refurbishment of the hotel.

The surroundings seemed very pleasant and overall we enjoyed our dinner (admittedly we only had main courses and a drink). The food was good, not outstanding, but more than adequate. Considering it wasn't busy, and there seemed adequate staffing levels, the experience wasn't as relaxed as it ought to have been.

When we were shown to the table, I was aware the wine glasses already on the table were very finger marked and not at all inviting. As we didn't order a bottle of wine, these were thankfully removed. Suspect they'll be used to reset another table picking up even more finger marks in the process? This may seem petty to some, but it's something I'm, well fussy about, and can feel quiet justified when they charge well over 5 pounds for a glass of house wine.

The food didn't seem over priced, but the drinks certainly did.

We had a wonderful wedding at the Torrance Hotel of my daughter Susan and Deryck.

The day was amazing. Gary the Manager worked tirelessly to make the day very special. The Cermony, the food, the service and the DJ could not be faulted.
All the guests commented on the marvellous day they had and I would certainly recommend the Torrance for a wedding venue without hesitation.
Thanks for a wonderful day to Gary and all the staff.
