This was our first visit to the Torrance Hotel , On first impressions it was very nice Stone exterior and grounds were pretty Reception check in was something we have never encountered before Hotel take £150 from Bank/ Credit card against any purchases you MAY make in Hotel Like Dinner, Drinks , Mini bar ? Nothing like presuming everyone will want to eat and drink in Hotel !! There are Restaurants and Bars nearby so to expect people to pay up front is out of order i have never came across this before normally settle bill on departure The Hotel has recently been refurbished Rooms and Bathroom were finished recently to a good standard found Bedroom was bit on small side .Needed to use the ironing board find Housed inside wardrobe Hence should be a socket around this area but no had to use socket at small Table / Dresser so had a bit of a struggle to get it across the room past bed space. The Tea / Coffee making facilities are also on small table / dresser you would not be able to use the table for laptop if you were staying on Business Not much room for drying hair etc Ate in Restaurant sent dessert back should have been cold the waitress agreed it was warm and offered to replace it or choose another
... Breakfast was awful decided on cooked breakfast Potatoe Scones were inedible could not cut through them the square sausage was like rubber had it replaced with toast and poached eggs shame the conservatory where Breakfast was served was nice .
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Welcoming traditional village hotel in walking distance to Scotland's largest undercover shopping and leisure centre in East Kilbride. East Kilbride has many local attractions including Village Theatre, Golf Courses, Ten Pin Bowling, Ice Skating, Odeon Cinema and is only 7 miles from Glasgow city centre. Built in 1773 by General Stuart of Torrance as a cotton-spinning mill and workers' houses the building in Torrance Square provided a focus for town life. In its many incarnations the popular Torrance Hotel has also housed a school, a shop and a Coaching Inn, but it has always been at the heart of East Kilbride. The building has retained all its original character and charm. We have 20 comfortable bedrooms including the newly refurbished Honeymoon Suite for 2007. Enjoy a meal in our warm and friendly restaurant or lounge bar which caters for a wide range of food from traditional meals to bar snacks. We are a 5 minute walk from the local train station which will take you straight into Glasgow's Central Station which runs every half hour. If more information is required then do not hesitate to ask our friendly receptionist staff. We would like to advise guests that there will be no bar or restaurant facilities for the next 4 months. We are undergoing a major refurbishment to improve the services to the guests in the future. ... more less
