I have just spent 2 weeks staying at the Waldorf at Pennant Hils, chosen only because it was impossibly to find accommodation closer to the city over Christmas / New Year for 14 days straight. I have stayed here before but was surprised how the hotel has deteriorated. From our arrival all was not well as we were booked into a room that we specifically stated we did NOT want as most bookings are done through a central agency the desk staff went to much trouble to get us into a suitable room.
The carpets throughout the corridors and rooms were in dire need of cleaning, with very prominent staining to be seen, and the walls and doors were screaming out to be painted. Our one bedroom apartment was small but adequate, with a separate bedroom which was separated from the living area with double glass doors giving no privacy. WHY? The room had King size bed in an area that was far too small allowing for only a bedside table and lamp on one side and access to the bed from the window side extremely difficult. Climbing in from the end of the bed was the most accessible way to get into bed. The valance around the bed was torn and bedraggled. The cupboard space was sufficient.
The kitchen was small, but had everything one needed. However I would question why the microwave was placed above the fridge with a pull down door rather than a side opening one. This was very dangerous when trying to remove very hot items, unless you were very tall.
The bathroom had a bath with shower over it and a bonus washer/ dryer which was very useful. There was also a coin operated laundry for those apartments without a machine. Despite being there for 2 weeks we we only given 2 towels, and had to take them to reception to get replacements as the room was only serviced weekly. Why not leave 2 towels per person?
The gym was surprisingly well fitted out with relatively new equipment, and plenty of space to work out, but the pool was the most uninviting I have ever seen in a hotel and in need of some serious maintenance.
With the benefit of free security parking it was still quite good value for Sydney and the train was only a 5 minute walk away, as we're some really good restaurants, and a supermarket.
However I get very annoyed having to pay $50 per week for Internet when one can go to nearly every cafe around and use theirs for free.
The Waldorf chain needs to give some serious attention to their tired premises, at least a carpet clean and a lick of paint would be a good start.
