“A different experience in St Julian's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

We have visited various restaurants in St Julian's and Paceville and this one, although looking a little non-descript from the outside, is actually very nice. It is a bit old fashioned inside as well but the restaurant offers good choice and the fillet steak and sea bream were both well cooked and well priced versus the competition. Steak, bream, 2 coffees and 3 drinks for €55 was good value. The hosts are a Croatian brother and sister and are very friendly running the restaurant since '95. Overall, the place could do with a bit of a refresh in terms of decor but that actually makes it quaint and therefore something different to enjoy a nice meal.

“It's Actually A Good Restaurant - Fish Is The Recommendation However”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

I have written a few reviews of the restaurants around Spinola Bay since my visit back in October 2013, and have to say that I am a bit concerned that Lorenzo has got a bit of a bashing. It's a good restaurant and as Trip Advisor won't allow me to put 3 1/2 stars to get it above average I will go for the very good rating.

All the meat dishes consumed by my party were of an acceptable standard at this price level, the wines we selected were good (no corked bottles here) and the service was good - not outstanding but what should be expected.

Where Lorenzo does get a boost though is the fish dish selected by my fellow traveller: lampuki. Not a dish either of us were familiar with but one that was in season and caught locally. It was prepared well, cooked well and tasted lovely.

So, in summary, Lorenzo does try and does get things right - but it does slip up in some areas. However, I don't believe it is done cynically so give them a chance and always go for the fish

“Lovely owners, nice location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

A light dinner of Calamari after a big lunch.

Lovely little location up a side alley looking onto spinola bay. Very quiet but it is out of season and a touch further up from some of the other places right on the front.

Run by two croatians the service was friendly but not too over the top and they both spent time talking to all tables which was a nice touch.

The food was relatively good value for money but just ok and underseasoned.

Great coffee though and a nice spot - woth a visit if staying nearby and want the view without a massive price tag.

“Shame”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013 via mobile

Nice enough service although maybe a little demotivated and im not surprised... It was Friday night in Spinola Bay and there was a clear divide between those restaurants fully booked and those half empty. Not professional waiting service too... Seemed a little amateur.

Nice tables and location but unfortunately the food also disappointed.

Beef stroganoff had an unsubstantial sauce making the meal flavourless. The rice was of typical large white grains of the area... Maybe Basmati hasnt made it to Malta yet?

Stuffed pork steak was ok but overdone so tough and burnt. Very nice grilled veg accompanying. (I was given other choices but glad I went for veg)

Chicken with Marsala... Again, the meat was tough.

Drinks were fine... Beer and the house wine both better than average.

And topped it off with a premade prebought tiramisu. Turned out to be tiramisu flavoured ice cream but that was probably us not noticing on the dessert menu.

The sign says est 1991... Time for change now I think. Bring this place into the 21st century and modernise the menu and snazz up the decor and service.
