“radisson at st julians bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in October after having booked at short notice. Hotel was as to be expected of a Radisson brand. Got upgraded to a junior suite without asking and really pleased with room. Had two large balconies overlooking the sea on the shaded side of the building. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from St Georges bay centre and 20 minute walk from St Julians Bay centre and is located in a quiet area. The food quality and choice is good at both breakfast and dinner. The facilities are excellent and to 5 star standard. Staff were friendly and helpful and as usual with Malta speak English fluently. The concierge staff were very helpful with travel arrangements. Weather in October was mostly sunny, windy and humid but generally comfortable. All in all an excellent stay.

Room Tip: One side of the hotel overlooking the sea doesn't get the sun so if you want a sea view and sun...

Nice hotel with a great ocean view. Rooms are very good but the design is older and not what you get @ a new radisson blu hotel in other cities. Rooms are clean and totally OK. Most of the rooms have a balcony with 'plastic chairs'. Breakfast was very good.
I would come back for sure.

Room Tip: Request a room with Sea view.

This Radisson Blu Resort Hotel in St Julians - Malta is rated a five star. The staff are very helpful and accommodating - nothing was too much trouble. The spa facilities were very good with very experienced masseurs. The hotel is rated as being a five star, but unfortunately I think it needs modernising to bring it back up to the five star rating it once was. The breakfasts were very good and the food in The Bistro was excellent, especially the service from William, who was always happy to see us and to recommend certain dishes to us.

Room Tip: The transverse views of the sea were very good, we were on the six floor. (The higher the better)

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful and could not do enough for you, we would definitely go back here.
The location of this hotel is perfect. The hotel is located on the edge of the bay overlooking the sea. From the main hotel there is just a short walk down to their second outdoor pool, where you can then also get straight into the sea and swim in clear blue waters. As well as the hotel being in the perfect location for the sea it is also perfect for transport. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the main towns, to St Julians this service is free and for Silema and Valetta there was a small charge for this however considering these towns are quite a distance away this service is extremely cheap. The other travel we used was the Hop on Hop off Malta sightseeing bus, which picked up for free from the Corinthea Hotel, which is a two-minute walk from The Radisson (The bus also dropped off here on the way back too). St Georges bay, which offers great water sports and restaurants is also a short walk from The Radisson, we took only 5 minutes to walk down to this man made beach.
On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed immediately by a complimentary drink, and all the staff were extremely friendly. We had arrived around midday but check in was not until 3pm, we left our bags with the concierge and went off to look around the hotel. Reception had said that we may not be able to check in until 3 but they would do their best to get us in early and would ring us when our room was ready. Just after we had wondered around the pool and had a look at the restaurant menu we got a phone call to say our room was ready. This was fantastic service from the cleaners and the reception staff. We then continued to experience the same friendly and helpful service for the rest of our stay.
We opted for the half board option whist staying at the Radisson and I cannot fault the food at all. Every morning breakfast is served between 7am and 10:30am, we always got down to breakfast around 7-7:30 each morning and there was hardly anyone else there, so no queuing for your food. Every morning we were welcomed by the waiters and asked where we would like to sit. We were then promptly asked if we would like Tea or coffee and this was delivered to our table straight away. You can then help yourselves to as much breakfast as you wish and with the many different choices, you can quite easily put on a few pounds whilst staying here. There was everything you could think of including, bacon, eggs (scrambled or fried), fried tomatoes, hash browns, sausages, cold meats, cereal, pastries (croissants, panu chocolat) breads, fresh fruit, yogurts, omelettes etc and they were all of very high standard and all the cooked food was kept nice and hot. Dinner was if it is possible even better than breakfast. We had a 3-course meal every night, with a starter of various salads, seafood and couscous, followed by the best cooked meats I have ever had, such as gammon, beef and chicken. The deserts were truly amazing, there was at least 6 different choices everyday and again you could help yourself to as many as you wanted. It was always a different variety of cakes every night! Unlimited soft drinks and water were also included every night with the half board option.

The rooms were also nicely decorated and very comfortable although you tend not to spend too much time in the room, it is perfect for what you want during your stay. There was also tea and coffee facilities with tea, coffee and milk being re-supplied every day after your room is cleaned. The bathroom was also a good size and had a good bath and shower facility, with the water staying a good temperature even after two showers. The room was very clean on arrival, however the balcony did appear to need a bit of redecorating in some areas, but these is the only fault in the entire hotel that we could see. Our balcony had a fantastic view of the sea/pool , which we did request prior to arrival via email.
The outdoor swimming pools were also a good size (not heated) and although there were many sun beds supplied around the first pool you had trouble getting one if you got down there after about 10am. However the pool areas further down always had plenty of sun beds and was a lot quieter due to the children tending to stay at the first pool.
We also wanted to book a trip to the blue lagoon through one of the companies advertising at the hotel, we spoke to the concierge about this and he phoned the company, booked the trip and arranged for the company o pick us up from the hotel. This was fantastic service and they were so helpful. This then just got added onto out room bill at the end of our stay.

Overall I can not fault this hotel at all, we had an amazing stay here and this was helped by the fantastic friendly staff members always there to help and making us feel special by remembering us instead of just treating us like “another customer”. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in a luxury hotel in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The location is perfect, the food is amazing, the staff are extremely friendly and hotel is gorgeous! Nothing could make this hotel any better than it already is and I will definitely be returning here in the near future.

Thank you Radisson Blu for the best holiday I have ever had!!!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Been to the Raddisson Blu , Malta, ten years ago and we were both looking forward to our October 2012 holiday. The hotel is situated on the edge of the mediterrean sea and you couldn't ask for a better view, but unfortunately that is the only thing that is 5 star! The hotel has become very worn and dated, bathrooms are mouldy, room service forgot to leave items like towels, cups each day. Also the air conditioning stopped working and we had to tell reception a few times before they moved us to another room. On a positive note the hotel rectified our problems and the breakfast buffet was lovely.. But we didn't expect to queue up each morning for breakfast in a five star hotel we were hoping to be waited on, but we got use to it after a few days. Four star staff, in a 3 star hotel, but the views are to die for.... We will probably come back again if they modernised and updated the accommodation.

Room Tip: Pay extra if you want to guarantee a sea view!

On the other hand we are sorry to hear that the rest of the hotel did not reach your expectations. We chose this hotel for our honeymoon and liked it a lot. Staff is perfect, everytime asks if everything is OK. Mario and Lucia at Kontiki restaurant are the nicest waiter we've ever met. Sea view from the balcony was unforgettable, very nice swimming pools and comparetivly big territory. What we didn'l like is bathroom which needs to be up-graded as soon as possible.

Pleasant and nicely located (on the sea) hotel. Staff are efficient and very helpful. Room comfortable, with basic furnishings and facilities all there, but possibly in need of renovation/up-grading in the near future. That being said, nice to have a kettle for coffee in the morning and a TV for the operation of which one does not need to be an electronics engineer! A pleasant bar and terrace ("The Bridge") overlooking the pool and the sea, with good Maltese wines and a welcome "happy hour". Restaurants good (reserve ahead of time for the "a la carte" one on week-ends). Breakfast buffet commendable, though fried eggs in oil not my favourite (the friendly cook will fry a couple in butter, on request). Wi-fi available and good, free of charge for guests. A little bit too much paperwork and "card-play" when charging expenses to one's room. This could be simplified. Easy access to Valetta and to the Island's sights, as well as to other locations.

Room Tip: Nicer, I think, to have a room overlooking the pool (rather than on the sides of the building).
