“Relaxed atmosphere....very friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2010

From the exterior, the hotel has an austere appearance which detracts from the beauty of the landscape.
However, once inside, the reception area and dining room has a modern, bright design, bathed in natural light, with fantastic views of the Karmsundet channel and Karmoy island.
The staff are professional and very friendly.
There is a wide and varied buffet menu for breakfast and evening meal.
Rooms with views of the Karmsundet channel and Karmoy island. Very comfortable beds. Free wifi access. TVs dated with predominantly Norwegian channels.
The hotel is located midway between Karmoy airport and Haugesund centre. The airport bus stops at hotel. Bus stop located outside hotel, local bus service morning until late evening going to Haugesund centre and places of interest on Karmoy island.
Day, 3 day, and weekly bus pass. Taxis are very expensive

Unfortuneately we chose Radisson Blu (the new name for this hotel) on our recent visit to Haugesund. We were given a family room with a bathroom that was absolutely horrible. Looked like it was renovated 40 years ago, brownish mirror, the shower... well, enough water would have been very nice. We will never stay at this hotel again.

The Radisson SAS Park Hotel is clean and comfortable, and the rooms facing the sound have a lovely view (also of the beautiful hotel garden). They’re really quiet too. You can even hear sheep bleating from across the water! If the weather’s good, it’s nice to sit out on the narrow balcony and watch the boats go by and the sun set. The rooms in the front of the hotel face a busy main road and have no view.
The standard rooms are quite large, and feature a huge double bed, a big desk, free, fast internet, and facilities for making tea and coffee (uncommon in Norwegian hotel rooms). Some people might find the décor a bit dated (we didn’t mind), and the sidings of the balcony could use a coat of paint. Our only real complaint, though, was the rather poor lighting – especially the desk lamp. Admirably, the hotel uses energy-saving lightbulbs, but they could have been stronger.
The rooms seem to vary somewhat. We were two couples who both got rooms with a view of the sound as requested, but the other couple’s room had neither a safe nor a bathtub like ours did – just a shower without an enclosure, so the water went all over the floor. And their double bed actually was two singles pushed together.
The hotel is very expensive on weekdays, but much cheaper on weekends. A wonderful breakfast buffet and OK dinner buffet is included every day. One of our party is a celiac, and the chefs went out of their way to supply gluten-free food, both hot and cold. Much appreciated!
The front desk staff are very friendly and efficient. There seem to be several glitches in the hotel's computing system which affected our bill in various ways, but everything was corrected smoothly and with smiles and apologies. Beware of the cleaning staff, however – on our first morning they barged into our room TWICE despite the “do not disturb” sign hanging on the doorknob.
The hotel is located about 3 km outside of the town centre, so having a car is handy. However, there’s a bus every half hour (23 NOK), and a 10 minute walk to a shopping center with a variety of shops.
This was our second stay at the hotel, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again – as long as we get a room with a sea view!

The common areas are nicely furnished and breakfast was very good, just how it should be at a Radisson. Our room was a standard double and had seen it's better days. It was pretty worn down and uninviting. Where the button to flush the toilet used to be there was now just a hole in the wall and it took us a while to figure out that if we stuck our hand into the hole there was a backup mechanism that we could use to flush...All in all I would say the room was more of a motel room than a hotel room. But it did have great views :-)

Used this hotel after arriving in the evening with Ryanair. The hotel is clean but needs a refurb. Breakfast was nice, so a good place for a stopover on the way to somewhere nicer.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2009

We visited Haugesund for a few days as we are visiting a clinic in Haugesund. We arrived and the first impression was of a concrete monstrosity, well at least from the outside! However as soon as we entered the hotel our opinion completely changed. Inside the hotel is pretty modern, with a nice lobby area and smart public areas.

Arriving into the room we were met with a modern, larger than average room with a bonus of a balcony overlooking the sound. We could sit on the balcony and watch the boats go by, and see the bridge off to the left. There was a TV with mainly Norwegian channels, but when they play English/American movies and TV they only put Norwegian subtitles on so you can still watch it. Free wireless throughout the hotel is brilliant, it is pretty quick too.

The hotel served breakfast and an evening meal included in the price, which was nice (pretty varied, usual Scandinavian cuisine), and had an ice cream bar which was very nice! The bar is well stocked but quite expensive (bottle of wine is GBP 36.50, two local beers and a vodka/coke cost GBP 21). There is a swimming pool downstairs which we were told is quite cold (we didn't venture in on our last visit). There's also a sauna, pool table and a lounge with TV downstairs.

The hotel is not in the town centre, however there is a bus twice an hour from the bus stop outside the hotel and it takes about 20 minutes, a taxi into town is around GBP 20, the bus is GBP 7 each, so more than two of you and it's cheaper to get a taxi.

if you walk for around 10 minutes the other way, there is a drive thru McDonalds and a shopping centre, with a (relatively) cheap supermarket (for Norway at least) there.

As we are undergoing treatment in Haugesund we appreciate the quiet, suburb location of the hotel, but if you want to do a lot in the town centre it could work out quite expensive in bus fares/taxi fares.

We got a very good rate on this hotel of GBP75 per room per night, including breakfast and dinner and considering the quality of the hotel and the amenities on offer, it is very good - especially in Norway. I'd expect to pay at least double that for this standard of hotel in Norway.

We came to the hotel for business rather than pleasure, so we had more realistic expectations. The food was generally very good with both cold salads and hot food. The only criticism with the food was the menu tended to be quite similar and predictable (we did stay for 10 days though!). There is a buffet system for the food and as we were on a budget, we stuffed our faces in order to do without lunch and avoid Norwegian prices. We were on a special package that included breakfast and evening meal for around £60.
The hotel is clean, fairly basic and has a swimming pool and a sauna (however the sauna doesn't open until 5pm).
The rooms are basic and on of one of our stays there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. On the second of our visits, there was. There are however free coffee/tea making facilities near the swimming pool area. One other plus is the free Internet access from the rooms which is both wireless or with cable.
There are good views of the sea from one side of the hotel, with poor views on the other.
The hotel building itself from the outside is not too pretty, however there is a garden at the rear of the hotel which is well kept.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask them if you need to borrow something (brollies, Internet cables).
The hotel is about 2 miles from Haugesund town centre and it can be a nice walk if the weather is fine. There is a retail park about 10 minutes' walk away that has a decent selection of shops and a few places to eat. There are busstops directly adjacent to the hotel on the dual carriageway and the old main road. These services run pretty frequently.
All in all very impressed with the hotel for what we needed and for what we paid, but would not choose it as a holiday destination.
