“Mediocre hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Went here on a business trip. The meeting rooms were quite small and there were some shortage of coffee. The rooms were average: small bathroom, 10 tv-channels. When it comes to eating, you can't order anything to your room and lunch - which you have to que for a long time to get - were just average. Staff was nice.

Stayed in December and had a standard room on the 6th floor with no view. The room was ok but the bathroom was too small. Otherwise clean and perfectly functional.

Breakfast very good with a large selection of food and fresh fruits. We had our Christmas party with work there and found the service to be very slow. The hotel also has its own bar/night club (Kompasset) but it was absolutely packed there on a Saturday night, not enough space for everybody and no dancefloor which is a minus for a night club in my opinion. The hotel says that this is the gathering point in the evenings but then they need to make sure it is big enough for more than a handful of guests.

The location of the hotel is very good, it is close to everything and some rooms have great sea views.

Room Tip: I would pay extra for a sea view next time.

Checked in and my room smelt (strongly) of stale cigarette smoke, had to ask for a change of room which they did with no problem. I had to pay extra for a room at the front overlooking the sea. The balcony has moving panels that can be closed but the problem with this is that smokers are obviously smoking on the balcony (ash trays and matches are provided by the hotel!) and the smoke has nowhere to go but back into the bedroom.
Room are quite small but was clean enough as was the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. The tv has BBC World as well as the local channels.
The restaurant was very good, service was quick and the seafood was excellent, portions weren't exactly generous but what you did get was well cooked and tasty.

Room Tip: Great seafront view but you have to pay extra for it!

I have stayed in the Rica Maritim a few times. This time for the first in a standard room. Very disappointing. Did not know this type of room still existed in a modern hotel. Just a single bed, no room to move, poor counter to work and no room between bed an counter to sit. Closed space poor so I had to live out of my suitcase. Small bathroom. All at a cost of 200 Euros per night!
Room located at the parking lot of the hotel Loud noise of garbage collection early in the morning.

Rica Maritim has a beautiful location close to the harbor, and we took opportunity of a special offer, "two nights - pay for one", for a weekend visit
You get what you pay for, - the room was hardly big enough for two people and had view to a backyard. Parking/stopping in front of the reception is impossible, due to permanently closed street. Access was possible from parking place, which is operated by an ill reputed external firm.
The restaurant is good, and facilities very cosy, however - beware of Norwegian prices. For a pint of beer (= 400 cl) they charge 10 euro, one bottle of claret lays around 50 euro -if you're modest!

Room Tip: Tell them you love to see the harbor!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Rica Maritim Hotel and then taking the time to write a review afterwards.

I don't know what room you had during your stay, but I'm sorry you think it was too small. We have several different room types, and through your special offer it was a standard room we offered. We are a big hotel, with 311 rooms, and I'm sorry that not all of them can have a view. A good tip is that if you aren't happy with your room, please contact the front desk and check if they have anything else to offer you. That is the same in all hotels, and nothing makes e recepionist more happy than a happy guest.

You are absolutely correct regarding parking/stopping in front of the hotel. The reason is for the safty for our guests. In case of emergency, we need firetrucks, ambulance etc. to access the hotel easy and without any obstacles. We have four different places for carparking around the hotel, including a garage, all with camera surveillance.

I am glad you enjoyed the food at the hotel and hope you had a pleasant stay, Behalf of the staff and myself I want to thank you for your visit and hope to see you here another time.

Best Regards,
Astrid Helen Ove

I used to live in Haugesund and was back visiting, and stayed in this hotel. I had seen this hotel from the outside many times so was curious to see inside. The hotel is located in the heart of the city centre, down on the quay. In terms of location, I don't think it's possible to get any better. The bus from the airport also stopped right outside.

Inside, the public areas looked very nice. There are a few places to eat within the hotel. I have eaten at Nauset (the boat house) before, and the food was excellent. I have also eaten at the cafe before, and was satisfied. I received good service at reception so was pleased with my welcome. When I got to my room on the second floor, I thought it looked a little strange from the outside. The area around it is obviously used for conferences. Thankfully there wasn't any conference on at the time, so it was quiet. The room itself was very nice. My only complaints were that the windows weren't very big, and were located high up on the wall. There was also some kind of enclosure around the window on the outside, although it was possible to get air into the room, so that was ok. I was lucky enough to have a sea view. One of my colleagues was staying at a different room in the hotel and had a view of the employees smoking in the courtyard. My other complaint about the room was a (frosted) glass door on the bathroom. Why are hotels insisting in using glass doors on bathrooms? And why are some putting windows between the bathroom and the bedroom (none of that at this hotel at least)? Call me old fashioned, but I like my bathrooms to have regular doors and not to be constructed like a goldfish bowl. Perhaps that's just me though.¨

Breakfast was very nice and the breakfast room had a nice sea view.

In all I was very happy with the hotel and will stay there again on future visits.
