“Good for business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Don't expect historic or natural sights from this zone, but for business travelers' it's an optimal place with easy connections to airport and the main ring roads connecting to industrial areas and Helsinki center. No train to Helsinki though. Good quality hotel with new rooms and good breakfast. Hotel in in a same complex with some decent restaurants, shopping center, Flamingo spa, gym and bowling area.

Room Tip: Top floors are cool, even there is not much to be seen.

I arrived really early after an intercontinental flight and was pleasantly surprised at front desk when a room was already available at 7.30 am. I was even offered a possibility to have breakfast already when checking in (besides with the normal next day), with a fee of 14 eur which I declined. Receptionist spent some time explaining what the attached shopping mall had to offer: there is a spa, a bowling areena among others. Receptionist was very helpful, cheerful and service oriented (not very typical for Finns).

Our twin room at 9th floor was really spacious and very clean. Bed a bit too soft to my taste, I would have liked a firm mattress. Free wifi and parking. Breakfast typical for this Sokos hotel chain with an unexpected extra: chocolate fountain! Never seen that in a Finnish hotel, at breakfast. Besides chocolate fountain, the breakfast consists of variety of bread, cheese, sausages, eggs, bacon, porridge, cereals, jogurt, apple and orange juice, coffee&tea. So I think everybody's taste is being served.
Hotel is adjoining Jumbo Mall, so lots of shopping opportunities. Restaurant Amarillo and Sir Eino give you entertainment until late night. Location wise this is not exactly an airport hotel, because there are similar hotels even closer to the airport and they do not offer shuttle to Flamingo but taxi is not very costly either (about 14 euros/10 minutes drive). I think there is public transportation if you want to check out Helsinki.
Extra towel set costs 4 euros (I think you might need them if you visited the spa).
We did not face problems with the elevators. Our bathroom bide shower was leaking water on the floor, and this we mentioned while checking out. The receptionist was (again) very service oriented, apologized and cared about our socks getting wet. She promised that it would be fixed before next guests arrived.

This hotel is just what one can expect from a Finnish 4 star hotel. I can recommend i t to my friends with no doubts.

Room Tip: Cool view from upper floors if you choose the right side of the hotel: rooms with even numbers (at l...

Stayed in this hotel for two nights. The hotel is clean, the room was quite spacious, the breakfast was ok. But in the mornings you had to wait for the lifts for a long time, as they were always full. Waited for a lift for almost half an hour, becauss could just not get in. At other times there was no big rush, so the problem is concentrated to the couple of hours in the morning when people are going to breakfast and returning, and also checking out. The reception told us that the rush was due to one broken-down lift and it should get easier when that lift is repaired. The hotel has free wifi and free parking which is nice, so if and when they get the lift problem sorted out, the hotel would be a good choice but for the price, which was very high compared to some other hotels in the same chain.

We spent a night in this hotel as our friend was having a birthday party in one of the restaurants in Flamingo. We had a superior room in the 11th floor and found the room very clean. The soundproof was great, couldn't hear a thing from neighbouring rooms or from the corridor. The only minus was the water pressure in the shower.
The breakfast was ok, it seems to get quite crowded around 9am but luckily we got there just before the crowd. Didn't like the juice they were serving at breakfast and the fruit on offer seemed to be a bit too raw. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and would probably use this hotel again in an occasion arises.

I spend one night in this hotel. My room was standard twin. Room was clean and modern as can assume. Flamingo is great location for leisure attractions which ideal for all traveller types.
Breakfast was good and service level great. Location also next door to airport makes it very good alternative for air travellers also. There was missing shuttle buss connnction to airport but alot of taxis are availlable. I can recommend this hotel to all. I

Perhaps the I was confused with the local hype surrounding the spa at the same place. I was also a little confused to find that they're different businesses. Even so, I was very disappointed to find that in order to gain entrance to the spa I would have to go to a different place and buy a ticket. With so many guests heading that way, why not set up a system so that hotel guests can buy it all at the same hotel reception desk? Disappointing.

The hotel bedroom was also a disappointment. It's a hard balance to achieve in my view, but minimalist scandinavian style using light coloured woods can look uber chic or super cheap, the Flamingo achieves the latter with ease. It felt cheap from start to finish. Ironically, at a venue where I had imagined fun at the spa, I found myself struggling to clear shampoo from my hair as the shower in the room was next to useless.

As far as dining is concerned there are plenty of choices around the hotel. For our dinner we had booked our group into the hotel's own restaurant and this was nice and the staff helpful and cheerful. Breakfast the next morning however was mild disappointment. Stewed coffee and, in my view, a limited selection. For example if cereals are your breakfast of choice the option was two different types of muesli. OK, but only just above adequate in my view.

If you're visiting offices in the nearby complexes on the other side of Ring III then it's a good business hotel location. It's also a decent alternative as an airport hotel as it's a very short ride from the terminals and yet enjoys more amenities and shops close by than any others in the area. Otherwise, if you're simply looking for a hotel on the periphery of Helsinki and Vantaa then you may well find more inspiring stays.

Room Tip: A few dining options in the nearby shopping centre - not fine dining but decent fare.
