“Different and refreshing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Tired of the same ol' confit of duck and cassoulet that sits on your stomach like a brick for the rest of the day.
Here, it's different.
Light, refreshing, interesting, this restaurant offers a fantastic alternative to the rest of the local restaurants.
The food is always made with fresh ingredients ans is great value for money!!

“Tiny, wonderful food, unbeatable value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We took TripAdvisor advice and booked for our meal, which was just as well as many drop ins were turned away while we were in the tiny Restaurant Gaia. The food was excellent: fresh local ingredients, carefully prepared with flair. As for value, I felt it was extraordinary - our meal was €75 including a bottle of wine, a couple of glasses of cremant de Limoux and a glass of dessert wine (though we only had one pudding). My husband had a souffle of Roquefort (outstanding) and chicken with wild mushrooms (delicious but vast, hence the one pudding). I had local white asparagus - lovely, but on balance I prefer the green kind - and magret de canard with peach and brandy sauce, sumptuous. The pavlova for pudding, like everything else, was perfectly cooked. €75 for this? i hear you ask. Yes! Amazing! The menu was €26 with no restrictions and the bottle of good wine was only €14! Other French establishments, take note.

I would have given 4.5 stars if possible to account for the fact that front of house service was a little slow (it took 20 minutes to get our glass of fizz) and somewhat offhand. But it doesn't deserve a whole star taking off for this, as this was our stand out meal in south west France.

“Beating the French at their own game!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Unbelievable! Had I been served the three courses I ordered in a Michelin-starred restaurant I would have been no more impressed than I was at Gala.
The souffle as a starter was perfectly executed, the Magret a delight and the raspberry & apple crumble delicious.
This is the top-rated restaurant in Foix for very good reason! Prices are reasonable and given the quality of the meals I dare say cheap/inexpensive (2 of us ate 3 courses each with a bottle of wine and walked away with change from 65€).
As for the atmosphere: simple decor and for once no elevator style background music to distract from the great food. The kitchen is open to the restaurant and let's you be part of the preparation of the meals. It's run by an English couple who are very friendly and welcoming in a typically british stiff upper lip manner.
Last but not least its located right on the heart of the old city centre minutes from the castle. Highly recommended!!!

“GAIA is a great place to eat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We went to Foix having read the reviews and wanted to eat at Gaia. We didn't realise that most restaurants would be closed on Sunday & Monday, so were initially very disappointed. However, we called in this morning before 10am to find them setting up, and booked a table for lunchtime.
We had a wonderful lunch. Caesar Salad, followed by Duck Curry and then a warm chocolate mousse for me. My husband had a Rocquefort cheese soufflé followed by Seabass on a bed of vegetables and then plum crumble. Every dish was very good. We also had a glass of wine each & tea & coffee. The total bill was €42 which was extremely good value. Excellent friendly owners. Would highly recommend GAIA.

“Best by Far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I am lucky enough to be a regular diner at Gaia, and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is simply decorated and lets the food speak for itself - something it does loudly and clearly.
The dishes are beautifully presented and delicious. There always fresh fish on the menu, something which can be hard to find in other restaurants in the area.
Definitely highly recommended
