“Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Nice hotel, very well located, near all restaurants, market, shops and public park with games for kids.
Employees very attentive, prices good.
Restaurant not superb and expensive for the quality of food, but nice location with river view.
Kind and polite. Will recommend it, specially if traveling with kids .

We stayed for 5 nights and loved Foix. This quaint family run hotel has lots of character and is set on the river edge, our room had good views up and down stream. The restaurant balcony enjoys similar views. We found the staff very customer focused and nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: A river view is best.

This an old-fashioned but comfortable hotel in the heart of the medieval centre of this charming small town. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was part of a group booking and the food we were given was disappointingly mediocre, compared to what I expected of this part of France; other guests seemed to have much better food. Given the brilliant location, it's hardly surprising that parking can be a problem.

Hotel Lons is a cute hotel in Foix. It has an interesting location along the river. The restaurant area has a glassed-in seating area that overhangs the river. The view at breakfast was spectacular. Our room was on the second floor (3rd in France) and was roomy with a large window that opened out over the river. The rooms decor was outdated but interesting. The bathroom was huge and very modern. There is an elevator as well as some beautiful staircases. There is a lounge area with a fireplace and a cute little bar. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We used this as our base to see Foix Castle and the prehistoric cave paintings at Niaux. Would definitely stay here again. Parking can be slightly difficult to find depending on the time of day, but we managed without too much of a problem. Foix itself is an interesting little city with an amazing assortment of shops in a very upscale looking set of streets within walking distance of Hotel Lons. And, of course, Foix Castle.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river, on the top floor.

I have to agree with other reviewers that the decor in this hotel is outdated, but I think it gives it character. You definitely can't complain that this is a bland corporate hotel! The staff could not have been more friendly or informative.
It's definitely the most convenient hotel from the train station if you're walking with luggage. Walk to the right, towards "centre ville", cross the first bridge and take the first street on the left. And it's well placed for touring the old town.
My room was large and very simple with windows that opened up right over the river. It was clean but, personally, I never trust old carpets. The bathtub was huge and sparkly, but it only had a hand held shower with nowhere to hook it on to the wall. I suspect I would have gotten a nicer room had I contacted the hotel directly, but it was a last minute reservation and I went with booking.com.
The restaurant was very good and not terribly expensive. They have a terrace that hangs out over the river with scenic views in both directions. The windows were closed the night I was there due to high winds. The waitress brought my duck confit in a small casserole and served it onto my plate at the table. Breakfast was the usual cold French buffet.

Room Tip: You probably get the best room from contacting the hotel directly. They speak English. But you hav...

The location of this hotel was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The rooms were very clean although the bed was a little too soft and the shower was awkward. Parking was on street and could be challenging.
Breakfast was satisfactory and the restaurant food was very good. The decor of the public areas is of another time, but overall the experience was a good one.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night in May and would agree with many of the reviews we had seen on Tripadvisor of the hotel. On the whole we thought the hotel was relatively good value for money. The room was absolutely fine (overlooking the River Ariège) and quite large and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a meal at the restaurant in the evening and also breakfast the next morning. The restaurant was packed in the evening (it was a Saturday night) but we thought that the food was very average (and a little disappointing having read some of the very positive Tripadvisor reviews). Breakfast was fairly average too. All in all a perfectly satisfactory hotel but I would not really recommend the restaurant.
