“Brilliant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Dont be put off by bad reviews. We were impressed with the hotel, rooms were a great size for families (2 adults, 2 kids). Hotel was spotless and decor impressive overall. The staff were helpful and polite, the free bus shuttles were frequent and rarely overcorwded. We had a great stay but be warned, bring plenty of euros with you. The food in the Disney restaurants aren't brilliant but are very expensive, you were lucky to get a family meal in a disney restaurant for under €100 (only including 1 glass of wine!).Top tip - pack some crisps/kids snacks in your case as a packet of crisps were €3 in the hotel, rising to €5 in the park itself! The free indoor pool is large and looks great (loads of floats you can borrow) but even the kids found it far too cold unfortunately.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and wasn't impressed. Check-in was a shambles with misleading signs which took us to the wrong queue (we were not alone). We were given an envelope with room key, park & meal vouchers but surprisingly there was no park guide or programme of events although these were widely available in the park itself. I agree with the previous comment about having to queue for a table at breakfast. I have stayed in several Premier Inns and this hotel was of a lower standard than them. The bar prices were very expensive (€18 for 2 drinks which would cost about £6 here) and there was no minibar in the room although this was specified in the brochure). On a positive note the staff were courteous and helpful on the few occasions we required anything.

Room Tip: The hotel is very spread out so try to get a room close to reception. Our room was almost 300 metr...

Just back from 5 nights at this hotel. Room was basic but ok. No Disney magic at the hotel at all you could of been staying in a hotel in England. There was no organisation for meal times at all the staff made things 10 times worse. You book time slots for b fast and evening meal at a selected time, you turn up at that time and you have to queue for ages, if they let you find your own table in the restaurant there would be no queue. The restaurant wasn't catered for children very much either. Two Disney characters arrive at the hotel every morning and there wasn't much of a queue for that. The pool was nice and warm, well worth a dip. Disney parks are a 10 minute walk away or there is a small train which costs 2 euros each but the driver only told us on our last trip that the ticket was for a return trip so be aware. We found the best time to get on the bigger rides was on an evening around 8 o,clock before the fireworks. Would I go back again ? NO. Having been to Florida there is a huge difference, there is no Disney magic, even in the parks. One other thing if you can go by Eurostar takes you right to Disney, we flew and Charles de Gaulle airport was a nightmare it's huge and you have to check yourself in on machines that don't work, there are 6 or 7 flights trying to check in on the same machines then more queuing to put your baggage through.

Just been reading reviews for above we have been to this hotel twice and are going again soon.cant wait to go again!a lot of people grumbling about hotel you go to Disney for the Disney magic not to stay in hotel room and watch tv and drink coffee Disney is for the park which is amazing I can't believe people are doing reviews and wringing about what's in there rooms .why take a child to Disney and first thing you do is go swimming why!!you don't have to eat in the hotel plenty of other places to go.also it's not that far to the reception from any floor.stop moaning about the hotel and get on with your holiday.

Room Tip: We have only stayed on admirals floor first time we were upgraded because rooms were over booked so...

I had read reviews and was nervous about staying here! Check in was quick and easy. The only I would complain about is not having proper cups in our rooms and extra coffee.
You cannot get hold of cordial.
I liked the hotel it could do with a few more Disney pictures but if you are staying here you will have a lovely stay.
We walked to the parks it was a 5 minute walk.

This was our second stay in the Newport Bay hotel. We last stayed about 5 years ago and little had changed.

Good points

quick check in and check out
easy free parking
rooms are large and spacious
we had a ground floor room with a large spacious window overlooking the garden
good showers
TV has BBC world and an English Disney channel
Last time we stayed in an admiral room and this time in a standard room and there seemed no particular differences.

bad points

Getting extra pillows took some time
we had a kettle but no cups or tea/coffee/sugar.
Housekeeping is not great. For example we got fresh toilet rolls but the sink and toilet were not cleaned. Perhaps the kettle was to allow me to clean the sink myself. Standards of cleaning need to improve.

other comments

Your room may be a long way from the reception. So luggage with wheels is better than suitcases without. Don't bring 20 bags with you.
There is an arcade on the floor 1 which is very expensive with games costing 2 euros each. Best game is the air hockey.
the swimming pool is quite large although it can get crowded. You can hire towels for 2 euros each. You are supposed to show your hotel easy pass to get it but when we forgot ours they still let us in when we gave them name and room number

You get a card for each daily breakfast. Breakfast is a noisy experience but we did not queue up for more than a minute or two. The last time we stayed there were long queues for breakfast. We had the 10am breakfast but you might want to breakfast earlier if you want to take advantage of the early entry to the park (magic hours from 8-10am) open to hotel guests.
Breakfast is continental and includes coffee, juice, pastries, croissants, butters and jams, cheese, pork meat (there is no pork free meat at breakfast), cereal - cornpops, special K and a chocolate cereal), and fruit salad. There is no hot breakfast included in the breakfast with your hotel package.

Two disney characters visit the hotel each morning and take it turns to offer a photo op to guests. You queue near the shop to meet them. We met Mickey, Donald and others. You should be able to see them before or after your breakfast unless you have left the hotel before 8am as they generally visit between about 8.30 and 10.30. Last time we visited they discouraged people from taking their own photos and only wanted the official photographer to take them. This time it was more relaxed; I think because everyone has a camera in their phone. This meet the characters is a real bonus to staying in the hotel.

The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from the parks. However you can walk there in about 10-15 minutes if you prefer.

Room Tip: I suggest less mobile guests request rooms close to the reception. This is a very large hotel and th...

Sometimes when you read reviews you build up a picture in your mind and we were a little worried after reading some reviews. We travelled on Easter Monday for 3 nights. There was 5 in are room out of a party of 9, we had a family room on the Admirals floor (7242) it was a great room, had 2 double beds plus 2 pull out beds for the kids, there was also a cot which we did not use, there was a separate closet plus a bathroom which was split in 2 parts bath toilet one part, sink the other, we had only booked this room as it was big enough for our group but I would book the same room again. You can tell the hotel is 20 years old, but they are decorating all the time, We had an early breakfast (7:30) as we felt it was better for the 9 off us, never queued once, but when we left there was a queue so recommend the early sitting, also you can get in the park early, which was only a 10-15 mins walk away, there is a shuttle bus which we always got on the way back with no problem. There is a games room with arcade games in, plus the pool, which was good, not as warm but was fine, we only went once and the pool is open till 10. Yes the hotel is big and rooms are spread out, we did not have to far to walk from lift but our other family members did to there rooms, but if you were in the big hotels in Vegas or the Emerites you would have the same situation.

2 Restaurants had breakfast in both which is Continental, which was fine, also a bar which could be bigger.

Would recommend and will go to again

Room Tip: Ask for a Lake View
