“Cheap and not so nasty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2008

My mantra is you get what you pay for. For €35 a night, I'm prepared to overlook some minor decor problems. It's a basic room with a bed, bathroom and French tv. If you are after a budget bed for the night then this will do nicely. Very minor problems included: peeling ceiling paint in the bathroom, no shower curtain, curtains a little derailed, a little toothpaste stain on edge of carpet.

Pleased to report that the room was clean and you don't have to take your own bed linen. Breakfast is €5 and consists of baguette, jam, tea/coffee, cereal, yoghurt.

I flew into CDG airport but at the rush hour time of 6pm. Taxi drivers will not want to take you to Rosny-Sous-Bois. The Paris traffic is terrible at that time and the journey took 1 hour and cost over €40. More than the room!

There is a RER train station near the hotel but be prepared to travel into the centre and then back out again to get to the hotel. Still, the journey should be much faster than a taxi at rush hour. if you are getting the Eurostar into Paris, then it's a very straightforward journey.

Don't bring you car; I arrived on a summer night after passing a burning car on the motorway, bright orange lames licking the night sky. A portent of doom? I asked myself. There is another reason not to bring your car which I'll explain later. The virgin taxi driver hardly instilled me with confidence as he tentatively tapped tom tom. We arrived. Balladins Rosny is essentailly surrounded by council estates, next to a busy motorway where the truck drivers are partial to some horn honking in the quiet hours! It's 5 mins from the RER stop next to a massive shopping centre where you can buy some nice baguettes from Paul's patisserie. I became quite fond of the emmental and ham; divine. I'd avoid Carrefour as it's massive and everything is in French, not sure why. More importantly I saw a rat scurrying around the back yard which was somewhat worrying especially as i was reading 'The Plague' at the time! The train takes 18 mins and 42 seconds to Paris Hausmann St-Lazare; a central stop. I liked to use this time staring at the ridiculously attractive French women. I look back on these 18 minutes and 42seconds fondly. The hotel charges an extra 5 euros for breakfast which is essentially toast and orange juice. They speak English though and were fairly helpful to be fair. The lobby sells 330ml cans of Heineken for 1 euro 50 - useful. A downside is that you have this electric car which has to be activated every day to get into your room. There wasn't a shower curtain whcih meant you ended up stepping out of the shower into a bath! Not sure about the ripped sheet, skanky mattress and white stain on the blanket! I guess a lot of travellers brush their teeth on the bed unless......

The staff cleaned up every day and didn't steal my money and the towels were refreshed every day. It was fairly quiet except for the guest next door and his penchant for door slamming. The kids from the estates were quite funny though as they played WWF on an old mattress on a field next to the hotel. The best moment of my stay was alluded to earlier. I looked out my window at 6pm and saw 2 teenagers who were standing in the car park with their faces concealed, strange? i sat down, SMASH. I got up. The silver car's passenger window was smahed, shards of glass littered the asphalt. The two delinquents ran off with a camera and jumped the metal fence back into their den of inequity not before tossing me the V sign. I don't speak French but that's fairly universal language!

It was a quick and easy train ride to/from the city centre, and was very close to a mall containing an excellent super market (Carrefour). The room was very basic, but had a TV and a clean bathroom. No shower curtains though. Be warned that to get to the hotel, you have to cross through the mall's parking lot, and then through or around the shopping centre. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

i booked by paris35 and i found that this suited me as it has the metro just behind the supermarket which was over the road. This took us all over paris and was easy to use. The rooms was simple and a deposit is required to have the tv remote and cleaners come every day to give clean towels ect. great place and value for money!
