Firstly, these gardens are stunning, whatever time you visit. We go quite regularly and there is always something inspiring to see. However, we are always disappointed by the attitude of the staff selling admission tickets. They are never welcoming or friendly, and when we have had a special offer to redeem on tickets, they look at it suspiciously, as if we are somehow being dishonest ! It's almost as if they don't want the public to visit !
The tearoom is strange.......lovely cakes and so on, but painfully slow service and chaotic when ordering at the counter....odd,because they're not short-staffed. Last time we went, we were the only people in the larger tearoom. There was some awful music blaring out of the sound system, totally inappropriate for the feel of the place, and as it was ruining the atmosphere for us, we politely asked for it to be turned down, or, better still, off. Our request was rudely declined "because of the other customers who like it"....... There WERE no other customers, and from seeing the type of visitor around the gardens,I would say they wouldn't enjoy this sort of music much either ! I actually don't think most people would mind NO music at all, actually. It kills the art of conversation ! Such a shame. We will continue to visit because we love the gardens, but every time we go our visit is marred in some way
