Owner description: The Discovery Centre is a world-class ecotourism facility nestled in the heart of the world’s oldest tropical rainforest. As the #1 Attraction in the Daintree it provides a wonderful introduction to this iconic world heritage destination. The spectacular Canopy Tower and Aerial Walkway allow visitors to explore every level of the forest and Audio Guides in 6 languages are a hit with overseas visitors. But it is it’s innovative Carbon Offset Project that is attracting attention! Part of every entry fees goes towards ‘saving the planet’ via its bio-sequestration scheme. The Discovery Centre is sustainable ecotourism at its best!

“Did we visit the same place?!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2010

To start, I have to admit that I hate spiders and bugs, so the rainforest was probably not the best place to visit!! LOL! If you are also frightened of spiders and bugs but want to see some rainforest try the Kuranda Sky Rail- they have a stop which has a rainforest walk- it's a much more managable introduction to the rainforest!!

We visited the Discovery Centre two weeks ago and I hated it!! It's extortionate to get in for how little there was to see, it's ok but we didn't see any wildlife during our visit which was very disappointing- you can see the trees anywhere in the Daintree. I think the major problem was that we were plagued by huge swarms of mosquitos during our visit, despite jungle formula repellant, so we felt pretty hard done by- eventually we got fed up with being the starter, main course and dessert for the little critters and left.

“A fantastic introduction to the Daintree Rainforest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2010

Highly recommend a stop here before going any further into the Daintree Rainforest to learn more about your fabulous Gondwana experience. You will proceed on your trip armed with useful facts and knowledge to help you make the most of your precious time in this awesome environment - tips on flora and fauna identification and spotting rare animals in the wild. The staff are friendly and helpful - we were greeted by Jayne, a thoroughly enthusiastic, knowledgable and approachable person! Check out the seed jewellery in the cafe. And don't forget, you get a free pass back into the discovery centre for 7 days after your trip - great value

Excellent! Will highly recommend to others. The viewing stations were most interesting and enabled us to see so much without disturbing the environment!

“Easily one of the most amazing, beautiful places in the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2010

This place is completely amazing. There's a long, winding walkway through the beautiful rainforest greenery. Every few feet there are numbered markers which correspond to either paragraphs in a book or if you prefer an audio tour which tells you interesting details about the tree, plant or general landscape in front of you. It's very educational and extraordinary to be walking through this rainforest. Two words of warning, bring light rain gear because of course, it rains all the time there and heavily bug replant as the mosquitoes will eat you alive. All in all an unmissable experience.

“An informative, relaxing day in the oldest rainforest in the world....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2010

I visited the Centre to show some international guests the wonder of the tropical rainforest. They live in a kind of jungle of their own (Tokyo!) and were really delighted by what they found at the Centre.

We took our time and wandered around, soaking up the tropical beauty and pointing out things that caught our eyes. So much information. And the jungle has so many dimensions: The forest floor, the undergrowth, mid level, canopy.... birdlife, butterflies... sadly we missed out on seeing any cassowary's but I had a local friend who said she saw 3 on her visit just a few days earlier.

Climbing the tower to be at the top before the rainshower came over was fun - and what an amazing view across the canopy! The little museum area had some great displays and we loved listening to the story of the wild cyclone that hit the area many years ago.

AT the end of the trip, I asked my friends what they had enjoyed the most and they answered in unison "THE RAINFOREST!".
