“Another Great Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Just took another group of bike tour guests out on Captain Cyril's whale cruise. What a gorgeous location with the mountains rising up out of the sea, blue ocean, clear air and of course whale sightings. Cyril and his family work very hard to find whales and make sure everyone has the kind experience they were expecting. He is a gold mine of information about whales and about life in the fishery around Bay St. Lawrence but be advised that you do need to ask the questions. Definitely worth the drive to this wonderful harbour to see whales!

“The whales are just the icing on a really spectacular cake!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

I've been involved in the tourism industry in northern Cape Breton for over thirty years, many of them spent helping visitors seeking various forms of outdoor adventure to plan their visit. In this capacity I've always recommended Oshan Whale Watch as a "must-do" activity.

I feel the main attraction of the cruise is two-fold:
First, the opportunity to see the magnificent, near-deserted shoreline of Cape Breton's "Top of the Island" region from the ocean is, for me, the highlight of the tour.
Second, interaction with the whales, which are seen just about 100% of the time, is the icing on a wonderful cake.

To see pods of Pilot Whale surrounding the boat is pretty exciting; so is being escorted along the cliffs by a mother Humpback and her calf!

However, when the Oshan departs the whales for awhile to visit isolated coves, inaccessible by land, containing hidden waterfalls, rocky arches, eagle perches and seal colonies, one following the other in rapid succession...... these are all views that stop watchers in their tracks, and the oohs and ahhs compete with the clicks from the cameras.

Other reviews have spoken at length of the friendliness of the captain and crew. 'Nuff said... it's all true!

A final note that I feel is often overlooked in choosing a whale tour: The seating on the Oshan is arranged to the advantage of those wishing to shoot images and video of the whales and the scenery. The "open" arrangement of the benches allows passengers to move freely about the deck, should they choose, so that they have good views regardless of the orientation of the boat. I've frequently used this feature to my advantage in shooting photographs during the cruise.

Bottom line: This is the tour I recommend for friends and family, and that's one of the highest compliments a Cape Bretoner can bestow on an attraction.

“Whales everywhere we looked!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

My husband and I took our boys aged 10 and 14 to Cape Breton and this was the highlight of the trip.Cyril met us the day we had planned to go but the sea was too rough so he suggested we come back the next morning. So glad we did! We were in the boat, with other people of course, for about 5 min when we spotted some pilot whales in the distance. Cyril stopped the boat minutes later and we were literally surrounded by whales! Some dolphins even came to the boat. We could reach out and touch them! Highly recommend this tour! Instead of driving out, I would recommend you call first to check the weather.

“Awesome whale watching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Very satisfactory trip! We saw many pilot whales that came near and under the boat as they would like to play with us. The prices are lower than other companies and the whale watching is 100% guaranteed. The small boat is perfect to enjoy the nature and the animals. Heartly raccomended.

“Majestic Scenery during Whale Watch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

As we moved along the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Island, we considered two opportunities for whale watching boat tours - one Chéticamp and the other Pleasant Bay. Weather conditions were not ideal at either location; thus we waited until we arrived in Bay St. Lawrence. We were very gratified with our choice of Oshan Whale Watch. The price was more economical, and the Boat's Captain was very generous with his time and attention to our satisfaction. The bonus with this location was the proximity to the Granite formations along the coastline. The Captain maneuvered close to the shoreline so we could experience the majesty of these structures and the reckoning with the depth of geological history. We experienced many pilot whales that swam around and under the boat. It was a thrilling time and there was a very good harmony amongst all of the other guests on board. This was the highlight of our trip.
