“We definitely recommend it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We stayed in this hotel during a ski weekend in the region.
The hotel is conveniently located at the intersection of the roads leading to Leysin and Les Diablerets, and right in front of Le Sepey railway station.
It was recently renovated with taste, still keeping a lot of character, coming from the family who runs it.
The rooms are spacious and spotless clean. Pricess are quite reasonable for Swiss standards, especially taking into account the quality of the services/facilities.
Breakfast was the less positive point: it was French style, without any fruit or cereals. We asked for some pastries (available), but never got them.
We recommend the hotel's restaurant - well prepared traditional food and a large choice of röstis. We enjoyed very much the white house wine: "Le Pot du Commandant", from a wine cellar in Yvorne.

Tip: don't mistake the small fluffy dog sleeping in the hallway for a rug. And don't let it go outside when opening the hotel's entrance door.

Le Sépey is a very small village situated on the hills east of Aigle. One bakery/tea room, one grocery shop, one hotel and a bunch of houses, that's it. It's accessible by train from Aigle, which is on the main line to /from Geneva, incl Lausanne and Montreux. Travel time to/from Geneva airport just over 2 hrs. From Le Sepey trains to/from Aigle run frequently from 9-ish in the morning to 10PM and the ride takes 30 mins. From Le Sepey buses also run to Leysin, Col de Mosses and Les Diablerets offering hiking trails in the summer and skiing in winter time. If you want to be very flexible about when and where to go a car is probably the best chioce, but it is managble without a car as well, especially if you don't mind planning ahead. There are no restaurants in Le Sepey except from the one in the hotel. Beacuse its location between high hills/mountains the village doesn't get a lot of sun after 7PM or so.

The hotel:
Du Cerf is a rather small hotel which has recently been refurbished and it looks really nice. The room we had was on two floors with walls painted in white and a lot of wooden structures as decoration, very tasteful. The bed was on the upper floor and no air condition, leaving the temperature quite high even with windows open on bottom floor during nights. The room and the rest of the hotel feels clean and fresh. A sauna and a steambath is available at CHF10 per person. We used it and it was very nice, looked brand new. Breakfast is rather basic, okay but nothing to write home about; orange juice, tea or weak coffee (ask for double espresso if you want a decent taste), white bread, jam, 2-3 pieces of cheese. Staff is helpful but not very convenient speaking english, so if you're not french (or maybe german) speaking you may be left on your own for a while and may have to call for someone else's attention. We found out that using a dictionary writing notes in french to the staff was the most efficient way to communicate that the room had no power supply and that there was no supply of cold water in the tap. Once we had found out the proper way of communication it was all sorted out smoothly.

The restaurant:
Is excellent and well visited by locals and tourists. Quite pricey, but what isn't in Switzerland? Their speciality is Rösti, which we had the first evening. It was delicious - but we miscalculated the amount of food and relaized we could have shared one late on two people. Following nights we had different sallads which were all well prepared and delicious.

The hotel is recommended for anyone wishing to stay in a pieceful and quiet location and who doesn't mind driving or using public transports for getting to attractions / viewpoints / activities.
