“Perfect Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We have been visiting Skala Hotel for eight consecutive years, and have never been disappointed. By now we feel utterly at home in this place, with Theo at the helm and his wonderful and charming staff looking after their guests in a most hospitable way. They really make you feel welcome going out of their way to fulfill every wish you may have. - We loved the newly refurbished and updated bathroom and the good quality furniture, including beds you really sleep in well - unless you are too excited about the nocturne sounds of Patmos harbour which in our opinion greatly add to the atmosphere of the place. Add the tinkling of the church bells from around seven o'clock in the morning, and the faint noise of the cockerels in the distance, and you may never want to leave again... Such is the location of Skala Hotel between the seafront and a bustling town, yet secluded from the traffic by lush walls of greenery splashed with bright flowers, that it would be hard to imagine a better place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. If you are indeed looking for a hotel version of paradise, this one comes pretty close!

I stayed at Skala several times already and each time it was just perfect. Excellent location just few steps of the main street and yet calm and quiet in a garden of bougainvilleas; Just short - 6 min.- walk to the port, main square with numerous shops and kafenios and taverns. Beach just across the street and the swimming pool with bar at the hotel - simply everything I could wish for. Rooms are quite spacious with shower, air condition and TV, they are clean and offer mountain or sea view through balcony. Breakfasts offer variety of jams, cheese, ham, juices, coffee, tea, yoghurt, fresh fruits, etc. You can eat inside or outside on the veranda. The team - well the team is what makes Skala "a home away from home" for me. Theo - the Manager, the Reception team as well as the rest of the staff are extremely polite, they will offer help and assistance in organizing your stay. They will greet you with a friendly "Kalimera" or "Kalispera" depending on the time of the day with a warm smile. I truly recommend Skala for your stay and thank the entire Team from my heart for making my visits just perfect each time.

We were initially disappointed to be allocated a 'mountain view' room but loved the tinkling bells of the herd of goats which meandered across the hillside morning and evening. Skala is a lovely hotel beautifully located right in the centre of the main port but reached through a 'tunnel' of jasmine and bougainvillea which creates an atmosphere of quiet and seclusion. Rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and well-equipped. Totally adequate (just slightly uninspiring) buffet breakfast can be taken on the leafy terrace with floor show provided by a family of ginger kittens. Staff are friendly and helpful. Overall a great base for visiting Patmos.

We stayed at the Skala in Patmos for two nights in mid-September 2013, and found it to be a very pleasant place indeed. The hotel is superbly situated -- within very easy walking distance of the ferry port, restaurants, shopping, beach, etc. -- yet set back just a little from the Main Street, which is right on the water. In particular, It is barely a three minute walk to a restaurant where we had a superb dinner. I have regrettably forgotten its name, but coming out of the hotel onto the Main Street, turn left and walk no more than 100 yards or so. There is an Italian restaurant on the ground floor, and the restaurant/taverna in question is upstairs from that, with a terrace looking out over the water.

The rooms at the Skala Hotel are clean and comfortable, and have a fridge (with -- amazingly -- a very reasonably priced minibar), air conditioning in good working order, a balcony, and a very decent bathroom. Our room looked out onto the back of the hotel, so had an uninteresting view, but from what we could tell some of the rooms have a view on the sea or on the hill that houses the monastery of St. John. The hotel also has a very attractive pool (salt water) that appears very well-maintained. Breakfast was included in our rate and consisted of a buffet with a nice range of choices, including cereal, eggs, bread and toast, pastries, ham, and cheese.

The staff and management were very friendly and helpful. The air conditioning in the room we were initially assigned had a terrible squeal, but the manager immediately transferred us to another room. The receptionist (Maria) whom we asked for restaurant suggestions was extremely forthcoming. All in all, I would have no reservation in recommending the hotel.

Room Tip: We got a special -- thus a good rate -- on Expedia, but the room did not have an interesting view...

I don't often write reviews on places to go to or stay at while travelling, however I do read them when I organise my trips. I value honest opinions of the genuine fellow travellers and I did find them useful on numerous occasions. Trip Advisor, it's time I offer you something in return, as with this particular hotel it would be a shame not to.

I stayed at Skala after a spontaneous decision of coming to Patmos while visiting friends on a different island, and that was a spot on decision.

First of all, the hotel is brilliantly located near the ferry terminals/travel agencies, etc., what also makes it an ideal base to explore the rest of the island. When you pass through a green tunnel of Bougainvillea, you leave the buzz of the street behind to find yourself in a quiet oasis of the hotel's pool area and the foyer. The interiors are nice and welcoming and so is the staff. You'll be spoiled with their kind and helpful approach, full of respect and effortless attention. I really felt looked after.
Rooms are airy, clean and you could easily swing a cat or three around. I love having a nice bathroom wherever I stay, and with this bit Skala didn’t disappoint either.
I didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on the food but the dining area looks nice and bright.

To summarise, if you don’t want to worry about the hotel while travelling to Patmos, you've found the right place. I guarantee that you will receive an unpretentious hospitality and an excellent accommodation that will keep you coming back for years (as I can see from the other comments). Having said all that… I enjoyed my stay so much I managed to miss my ferry... :) That surely is the best recommendation.

Enjoy!

Stayed 5 nights here in September 2013, staff (and Theo) on the front desk very welcoming and helpful in terms of giving advice on best beaches and how to best get there. Although the hotel was renovated a few years back a lick of paint here and there wouldn't go amiss, rooms though, at least ours was, a good size with decent size bathroom and large shower. Good shutters and doors meant room could be kept cool.
Set back just a few metres from the front and close to all the shops and restaurants of Patmos.
Hotel has a good size bar area inside where a classical concert was on where we were there that was very good, and a better than average breakfast selection, although staff found it hard to keep up during busy times.
Dimitri at the pool bar very friendly and willing to share lots of stuff about Patmos and other nearby islands, it is a pity the hotel do not make this area a bit more of a focal point, however the majority of guests seemed to be pilgrims visiting the monastery so maybe there isn't enough of a demand to make this a viable proposition
All in all a comfortable stay in a super location

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter as away from the motorbike noise
