Our family (three adults, two children, one young adult couple) stayed at Posta Pastorella for a week in July 2012. We had not been to the Gargano National Park area before and - due to my sister's online research - found a lovely place. Posta Pastorella is a wine and olive-oil producing farm that has an older stucco building divided into apartments and other B&B rooms in the more modern building that houses their wine-making operation. We had two apartments (a 2-bedroom and an efficiency) in the stucco building, but didn't see the B&B apartments. The apartments were adequately furnished and included a tiny kitchen (complete with full stove, oven, sink, fridge) where we managed to produce pretty good meals for our family of 7 all week. The furnishings are not luxurious but the beds were very comfortable with nice linens. The larger apartment had a lovely second-floor terrace where we could eat dinner al fresco. The owners were friendly, tho' it took several days to fix the air-conditioning unit in the large apartment. The owner's son and the English-speaking staff (Christine) will do private or scheduled wine and olive oil tastings and sales. (Ask them if you need to buy olive oil or wine on arrival.)The pool is lovely, large enough to do laps, and immaculately clean. There is an excellent supermarket (2C Mercato) about 5 minutes away, by car.
There are many, many places to stay in the Vieste area - but beware! Many of them are over-crowded trailer parks or motels with boom-boom disco music all day and late into the night. Posta Pastorella is lovely, quiet, and a good place for families or adults looking for rural peace.
The Vieste area has lots of beaches - some pebbled, some sand, some large, some small, some with parking, others where you have to hike down from the roadside - all beautiful with (the week we were there) gentle surf for swimming. The local fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, seafood, wine, and olive oil make for some great dinners - especially when you cook for yourselves! La dolce vita at affordable prices.
One note of caution - we had a great deal of trouble finding Posta Pastorella on our arrival in Vieste and ended up being escorted there by some friendly police. The most important landmark, if you need directions from locals, is that it is on the road right off route 89, next to the Repsol gasoline station.
