“An oasis in a bit of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

We were referred to Tui Lodge by our tramping host (Walk Gisborne), as we were looking for a place that was around the bend of the East Cape, on our away to the Coromandel Peninsula. There were three of us and we stayed in the two bedroom "Kiwi" room, upstairs. Rex and Joyce were fabulous -- Rex kept an etye on our needs, and Joyce's cooking was outstanding, for the family style dinner and breakfast. The grounds are gorgeous -- sorry we ddin't have more time to enjoy the property. If you wre in this this part of the East Cape, I'd definitely recommend a stay.

Tui Lodge is a great place to stay. The garden is beautiful and there is a lot of space in the house. Rex and Joyce are lovely hosts, who make a gorgeous breakfast and evening meal as well. The rooms are spacious and nice.

The Tui Lodge is set in a Sub Tropical garden nicely landscaped and surrounded by Kiwi fruit orchards, the owners of the Lodge were very helpful and easy to talk to.
Comfortable rooms with no noises from any traffic or surrounding activity from motorised exipment on the day we were there. Highly recommended for a relaxing unwind.

Room Tip: All the rooms we looked at were of a high standard with a limit on the number of guests at any one t...

We were warmly greeted & cared for here. Delicious home cooked meals. Great room facing the garden. Close to a beach. Hosts really generous with their local knowledge & information.

Totally recommend this special lodge for those doing the East Cape.

We happened upon this lovely lodge by accident on one of their few nights that they had a vacancy. The grounds are beautiful, the accommodation very comfortable and our hosts were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We would thoroughly recommend this lodge to mature travelers seeking peace and quiet slightly off the beaten track.

We had a very enjoyable overnight stay at Tui Lodge. Joyce and Rex are warm and friendly hosts, and made us feel very much at home. Our room was very comfortable, roomy, and had electric heaters available as needed. After we arrived we enjoyed afternoon tea, followed by a complementary glass of wine before dinner, in the large and super comfortable lounge. Internet access was free. Dinner, eaten with our hosts, was delicious, and as others have noted, Rex and Joyce are interesting and entertaining company. After dinner we relaxed in the lounge, warmed by a woodstove, watching Sky TV in HD on their large screen TV. Next morning, an excellent breakfast included cereal, toast, and fresh fruits. Tui Lodge is a gem, set in spacious grounds, with an outlook to the sea. A highly recommended place to stay in this part of New Zealand

A wonderful place, wonderful hosts, and fine accommodations in a place (East Cape) where they're hard to come by. Stayed recently (December 2011) with Rex and Joyce in their B and B, which features impressive gardens, clearly a labor of love. I have to make the additional comment that the hosts were generous and kind, well beyond the call of duty . . . B and B's are as much about the personality and "vibe" of the patrons as the place itself, and Rex and Joyce rate five stars.

Just off the main road, which is very much to your advantage . . . much nicer than the nearby alternatives.

Room Tip: only four rooms-- we were lucky to get one, but I'd advise reservations . . .
