We arrived on a fabulous Fall day , just prior to the sirens sounding for the release of water. This process increases the volume of water coming over the top...the fall is used to generate hydroelectricity. There are several levels of the falls with well defined trails and look out points. You can hike to the top or spend time at lower points along the trails, all give you great opportunities for viewing or photography. It is amazing to realize that the Romans constructed these falls three hundred years before Christ to drain swamps for agriculture. Later a high ranking church official used the falls as a summer residence. The falls have opportunities for zip lining, rafting, hiking, and rappelling with advance booking. Lord Byron used the spot to write poetry during his time in Italy. It is a magical place for all ages and abilities, with food vendors for a sit down meal or picnic tables for your own food. Currently they have a botanical garden under Construction. It is easy to spend a morning or afternoon at the falls and a natural break from big cities and lots of cultural treasures.
